The Apex centre is an offsite provision based in Minehead, providing support and therapeutic services to vulnerable students from across the Bridgwater and Taunton College Trust. Catering for students aged 5-16 and set in its own 22-acre site with a small-holding, gardens, and Forest school.
Animal Welfare Technician

Salary: BTCT Points 5 to 6, starting at point 5. Actual starting salary £10,633 per annum

We are seeking to a Animal Welfare Technician to join our team of support and teaching staff who are responsible for developing the skills and unlocking the potential of young people who are at risk of permanent exclusion from their educational setting. This is a chance to work in a new and exciting provision providing a bespoke curriculum to match each individual learners needs.
The role will involve day to day animal husbandry and welfare of the animals and supporting the APEX West in its overall responsibility for the health and welfare of the animals in its care and assisting the Head of Apex West in ensuring that the animals within the centre, crops, machinery and equipment used by the provision are maintained to a functional, secure and safe standard.
There will be a rota system to ensure that animals are cared for, fed, watered and suitably bedded up and that crops are tended to outside of normal school hours (a rota that includes weekends and a varying daytime shift pattern)
The role will also involve providing support that enables students to access the curriculum and make good progress - this will involve working alongside children and supporting during practical lessons with small groups of approximately 2/3 students under the direction of the Head of APEX West.

Successful candidates will be educated to at least GCSE (or equivalent) grade C in English and maths and will be committed to building strong relationships with others and putting the students first.
