Reports to: Regulatory Compliance Supervisor
Location: 9 Napoleon Road, Barrie (hybrid)
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Determine technical documentation requirements, guiding the compilation and analysis of technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing product characteristics and functionality. Delegate the creation and revision of multi-language manuals, leaflets, specification sheets, and labels. Lead projects for the technical documentation team and provide direction on action plans.
- Provide first draft review for all technical documents across product divisions. Ensure accuracy and consistency. Maintain thorough understanding of company product, attributes, and critical features.
- Spearhead product standard updates, create review templates, and determine impact to existing documentation in cooperation with product validation team.
- Provide occasional support with the creation and revision of multi-language manuals, leaflets, specification sheets, and labels using SolidWorks and Adobe Creative Cloud software.
- Oversee the creation and review of documentation packages for certification approvals.
- Lead the development and maintenance of detailed databases housing appropriate reference materials, including research, usability tests, customer feedback, style guides, and templates. Carefully consider requirements such as language, nomenclature, naming conventions, brand awareness, industry standards, certification, formatting, stylistic harmony, building codes, accessibility, regulatory constraints, customer expectations, etc. Conduct reviews to ensure that deliverables are consistent with standardization provisions.
- Provide support to all divisions of the Research and Development department by authoring and arranging the creation of engineering standards, procedures, training materials, and templates. Facilitate effective collaboration between team members and bring working groups together to support the production of these assets.
- Continuously scan the marketplace - occasionally looking to other industries - and develop innovative approaches to improve content, structure, software & technology adoption, and communication media.
- Arrange technical documentation team's participation in physical audits to validate accuracy and completeness of technical documents (EPR's, process runs, PPET, etc.).
- Review supplier proofs to ensure accurate transposition of technical information and material specifications.
Education and Experience:
- College Diploma or University Degree in English / Professional Writing / Technical Communication.
- 5+ years’ experience within technical writing in related position/industry. Supervisory/program management experience is considered an asset.
- Postgraduate certificate(s) in technical writing.
- Must be experienced in Adobe Creative Suite CS4 or higher (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook). Experience in SolidWorks Composer, NiceLabel Pro, and/or Labelview are considered assets.
- Experience working with engineering to improve user experience: design, UI, and helping to refine content and create visuals and diagrams for technical content.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and organization.
- Working with content in multiple mediums for diverse audiences.
- The ability to translate into French, Spanish, etc. is considered an asset.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to function in a fast paced multifunctional environment where priorities change regularly.
