About the Role:
The Senior Mechanical Engineering role is an engineering technical lead position that will provide departmental leadership for Abrams Legacy and Modernization programs. The individual will provide technical oversight and leadership for projects, training, standardization of approaches, mentoring, peer reviews, and guidance when needed. This engineer will provide internal and external customer interface, technical management and organization for mechanical engineering teams within the department and apply engineering principles to generate designs that solve complex problems. The areas of focus will include hydraulics, pneumatics, automatic fire suppression systems and fuel systems, steering, braking, shock/vibration isolation, seats, stowage, battery enclosures, and LRU mounting.

Responsibilities to Anticipate for this role:
- This position is responsible for the design of subsystems and components to meet vehicle performance requirements including human factors, safety, environmental, ballistic and mine blast requirements.
- Conduct design, integration and analysis of mechanical components, mechanisms and shock attenuation systems for mounting devices.
- Applly mechanics of materials, material selection, welding, and fabrication principles for mechanical components and complex welded brackets, mounting provisions.
- Will support various projects by doing analysis & design, drawing mark-ups, tolerance stacks along with generating source data for engineering changes.
- Responsible for writing material requests and shop work requests, track delivery and stock of parts, participate in integration reviews, fit checks, and write reports.
- Provide support to prototype and production vehicle build and follow-up, technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and redesign activities.
- Present design concepts, program status and issues/challenges to functional and program management in a clear, concise manner and in the context of risk management.
- Provide technical management of mechanical engineering teams by setting up, planning and inputting EV Core data, ensuring comprehensive sets of requirements are developed and met, tracking and delivering all CDRLs (Contract Data Requirements List), ensure the compliance and design integrity of products delivered by mechanical systems engineering, and manage the release of parts and changes through the process.
- Conduct failure analysis and produce corrective action needed.
- Will be responsible for managing cross functional projects, leading complex tasks.
- Will work with different engineering functions of the organization on various programs.
- Will work on the customer needs for vehicle, formulate the subsystem and component requirements and meet the expectations desired.
- Will help mentor junior level engineers on various areas of responsibility.
- May occasionally be responsible for technical presentations to other engineering groups, the customer and/or leadership.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Sought:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- 10 years plus in a related role is desired.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams.
- Solid modeling experience with NX or Creo desired.
- Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup.
Additional Information / Desired Experience
- This position will require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)
- Previous experience working on ground combat Vehicles desired.
- This position may require the candidate to be able to climb on/off, work in, and work around military vehicles is desired. Must be able to pass ASR test (Anthropometric Size Requirement for confined space)
- Able to bring continuous improvement processes and methodologies to the position. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills is required Works well in team and individually.
- Must be able to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required
- Ability to travel up to 20% to other facilities and military installations if needed.
