Job Content, Responsibilities, and Possibilities:
Based out of PEAX Energy’s London office, you will assist the existing team by performing techno-economic modelling, analysis, and deliverable development for early-stage PtX projects. We envision the Student Assistant taking a full-time role within PEAX Energy for the duration of the placement
- 40 hours a week (negotiable)
- Flexible in-office hours with three days per week in-office
- Holiday pro-rated for the duration of the placement based on an annual allowance of 25 days (plus public holidays)
In-office work will be out of PEAX Energy’s London office, located a few minutes walk from Green Park Station in Central London. You will work alongside the existing PEAX Energy process engineering team, reporting to either a Senior Consultant or Senior Technical Director, depending on the specific project and task. Regular support and feedback will be provided to aid in your development throughout your placement.
More specifically, your areas of responsibility may include (depending on project) the following:

Development of process engineering calculations from first-principles or literature references, i.e.:
- Equipment sizing calculations
- Utility/cooling water balances
- Process simulation work in a graphical simulation package (i.e., Aspen Plus, or equivalent)

Development of key deliverables such as:
- Process design basis
- Process flow diagrams
- Heat & material balances
- Sized equipment lists
- High-level optimisation and modelling in Python
- Economic analysis and evaluation of PtX projects, both in terms of CAPEX and OPEX, over the entire project lifetime
- Technical report writing
What you Bring and your Qualities
Need to have’s:
- A good grasp of chemical engineering principles
- Current MEng undergraduate student in Chemical Engineering
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, such as Excel (critical), Word and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with Process Simulation software & other electronic design software
- Willingness to relocate to London for the duration of the placement
Nice to have’s:
- Ability to code, preferably in Python
- Familiarity with reaction kinetics
- An awareness of the principles of water electrolysis
- Familiarity with current decarbonisation technologies
As a person, you should be an inquisitive, meticulous individual with a technical mindset and willing to learn new skills. You should be able to:
- Communicate complex ideas
- Maintain good organisation and digital records of your work
- Research innovative approaches when confronted with challenging technical problems
- Work in the renewable chemicals industry and make a personal contribution to global decarbonisation
