What are we looking for
We have an opportunity for a PMO Manager to join our growing PMO team. This role will be responsible for managing and developing a team of PMO specialists, and for coordinating the PMO resources that provide expert guidance, support and coaching to project, programme and portfolio managers. The PMO Manager will be an experienced project and programme management professional, with experience of using industry standard methodologies such as P3O, APM or MSP to take the lead on documenting portfolio, programme and project management processes, procedures, software tools and techniques. This role will report into the Head of Project Control.
Responsibilities
- Define standards and procedures for project, programme and portfolio management
- Coach and familiarise business stakeholders to appreciate the value of project, programme and portfolio management
- Coordinate specialist project resources to support project and programme management
- Advise on development, production and maintenance of business cases
- Advise on development of plans and use of software tools
- Report project programme/project performance against Management Information (MI).
About You
Knowledge and Experience
Application of Project and Programme Management Methods and Tools
Ability to:
- Identify and lead introduction of best practice project and programme management processes, tools and templates, using industry standard best practices as a benchmark
- Promote adoption and build commitment to best practice processes, tools and methods
- Provide guidance, coaching and technical support to embed use of best practice processes, tools and models
- Build and promote a knowledge base of lessons learned and best practice from previous projects
Portfolio, Programme and Project Support
Ability to:
- Coordinate the support office (P3O/PMO) for a portfolio of projects and programmes
- Establish information systems for gathering project and programme data
- Establish an effective project reporting system
- Track and report project and/or programme progress and performance, identify issues and recommend changes when necessary
- Assess the cross-project and commercial impact of changes within a portfolio of projects or a programme
- Contribute to reviews and audits of project and programme management to ensure conformance to standards, taking corrective action where appropriate
Resource Management
Ability to:
- Manage resources for delivery of all stages (planning, estimation, execution) of project and programmes
- Develop strategies to address resource gaps
- Ensure that information and knowledge sharing is integrated into all projects and programmes
Planning and Organisation
Ability to:
- Lead development of plans that meet the needs of the business and will result in service delivery and improvement
- Consider possible sourcing models for resources
- Help to remove barriers to success by providing resources and encouragement as needed
Project Risk management
Ability to:
- Implement processes, tools and techniques for the identification, assessment and management of risks
- Collect information on how risks are being managed including contingency plans that have been put into place
- Engage to act on significant risks or issues, implementing project and programme recovery strategies as required
Change Control and Configuration Management
Ability to:
- Create and maintain effective systems and governance for managing change
- Ensure all changes to scope, finances or the schedule are assessed and actions taken to mitigate impact
- Assess the impact of change on the project/programme/portfolio as a whole
- Provide constructive challenge on change requests where applicable
Communication and knowledge sharing
Ability to:
- Use a mix of communication methods to promote shared understanding across diverse audiences
- Convey complex messages and issues clearly and credibly
- Use, promote and develop ways to capture and share information across a programme or business area(s).
- Address problems with information flows.
- Draw from a range of strategies to persuade people in a way that results in behaviour change
