GSK’s Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing Science And Technology (MSAT) organisation is accountable for leading the end to end technical aspects of all our medicines from Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) to packed drug product. The MSAT Device & Packaging team interfaces across GSK’s manufacturing sites, Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs), R&D, Procurement, and Suppliers to deliver packaging platform standards, specification requirements, escalation and governance for medical devices and drug product primary packaging covering both small molecule and large molecule products.

In this role (Technical Packaging Lead/Specialist)

Reporting to the MSAT Technical Packaging Director, you will:

  • Support the development and delivery of robust primary packaging component selection for GSK’s specialty NPI portfolio – with a focus, but not limited to, vials, stoppers, cartridges used for parenteral drug products.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the investigation and resolution of technical packaging issues escalated from our Supply Chain (where local support is unable to solve).
  • Drive implementation and change strategies for the introduction of new parenteral primary pack components across GSK sites and CMOs
  • Identify, develop and implement continuous improvement activities that provide primary pack cost, capacity and quality improvements.
  • You will also be expected to work closely alongside and build working relationships with key business partners from a wide range of disciplines internally and externally to GSK.

About You:

This role would suit a self-motivated individual who has primary pack experience and of working in a complex manufacturing environment. You will be resilient and calm under pressure, able to manage multiple workloads, have good people and communication skills to help motivate and achieve objectives.

During the application process we will be evaluating technical competence, subject matter expertise and the applicants understanding of the complexities and importance of supporting production within a pharmaceutical manufacturing process.

Basic Qualifications & skills:

  • BSc in Packaging, Scientific or Engineering disciplines

And or

  • Relevant experience (preferably within a Biopharm/vaccine environment)

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience in glass, vial, cartridge and parenteral devices would be advantageous
  • Previous experience in the packaging/medical device/materials industry
  • Knowledge of external regulatory requirements (MHRA, FDA)
  • Operational knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes associated with pre-filler syringes / auto injectors.
  • Experience working in a cGMP aligned pharmaceutical environment, including managing change control

Location:

The MSAT organization is committed to performance with choice so flexible working is supported. This role will focus on Biopharma and therefore the intention is for this role to be located at one of GSKs sites that manufacture Biopharma drug product (Barnard Castle UK, Parma Italy, Philadelphia US), however all/any location will be considered / discussed as part of the interview process.
