Technical Officer
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Workshop Engineering Makers team within Manchester Metropolitan University as a Technical Officer.
A large and diverse team of technicians ensure that the University functions efficiently deliver the levels of student experience both our undergraduates and postgraduates deserve and expect of us. Working in specialist laboratories, workshops, studios and IT facilities, our technical professionals play a key role supporting, guiding, and advising across our university from sciences, art, design and technology, through to sports, ceramics, nursing and physiotherapy.
Role
The post holder will provide training to students, staff and visitors to safely carry out core functions e.g. equipment set up and operation, basic maintenance and repair, processes and procedures, operation of software, etc, and contribute to the growth of an internal and external user community.

About you
- You will be able to demonstrate a wide range of skills and experience covering a broad range of Engineering/Metal work disciplines.
- Possess a sound knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation associated with operations within a workshop/laboratory environment.
- We are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail with excellent verbal and written communication skills with an enthusiasm to provide help and support to staff and students.
- Desirable attributes are flexibility to work across faculties, multidisciplinary, a proactive and positive attitude
To provide the highest level of technical service, supporting the area, you will have a flexible approach to work and an ability to work on your own initiative. You will be expected to participate in internal and external networks and user groups, attending relevant events to keep up to date with the latest developments and techniques and to share information with other team members. Strong communication skills and a commitment to quality service will also play an important role in being successful in this post.
