IT Services
This full-time, fixed term post is available immediately for a period of 12 months and will be focussed on supporting a pair of University-wide projects within our Human Resources Department. You will be working within IT Services in the Solution Delivery team supporting the internal project team, which comprises subject matter experts from within IT and the business areas.
The projects
The University has started a programme of important projects, sponsored by the Executive Divisional Director of Human Resources. Two of these will be to introduce important changes in how we manage incoming and existing staff to the organisation. They are the introduction of a new e-recruitment system and a new improved way that the HR and payroll system handles changes to staff circumstances.
The role
- Responsible for liaising with key stakeholders in the Professional Services teams to develop a solid understanding of how the business and IT services in the business are currently operating and how the future goals of the business can be satisfied with implementation or changes to existing systems/processes.
- Applying a consistent and structured approach in the use of business analysis tools and techniques to deliver agreed outputs across the whole project lifecycle.
- Lead on the data analysis of the business in terms of its current IT services and supporting business processes to identify business problems, and opportunities and solutions for improvement.
- Responsible for identifying stakeholders and establishing user classes and their characteristics.
- Coordinate and lead on conducting interviews to map customer journeys, gather user requirements and translate into functional and non-functional requirements, and where applicable contribute to the development of prototypes.
- Responsible for defining the data impact of systems in relationship to the University’s Enterprise Data Model and collaborating with the Data Architect to optimise the data model.
- Develop process and data models, data specifications, entity diagrams, and other information to provide direction to developers and/or the project team.
- Understand and capture system and data integrations.
- Actively participate in University-wide projects where appropriate.

- Proven ability in business and technical requirements analysis, including data modelling and diagramming skills as well as developing requirements and impact assessments.
- Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements and specifications in both technical and user-friendly language.
- Proven communication skills demonstrating ability to understand complex conceptual ideas and experience in conveying information to senior stakeholders.
- Proven ability to interact across cross-functional and technical working teams and build ongoing relationships to ensure effective communications and exchange of information.
- Proven ability to take independent decisions without reference to your line manager relating to significant events, or influence decision-making that impacts resourcing and future business planning of the service.
- Demonstrable good planning and organisation skills.
- Excellent methodical, analytical (qualitative and quantitative) and problem-solving skills.
Experience of the following would be desirable but not essential. This role will also provide an opportunity for growth within these areas for an individual with the right attitude and approach:
- BCS Certificate in Systems Modelling Techniques, or similar
- ITIL ® Foundation
