What you need to know about the role
This role will see you reporting directly to the shift operational Team Leader who will set daily targets based on plant conditions and business KPI’s. Working in your teams you will actively participate in investigation, routine inspections and control room activities to ensure stable plant operations and achieve optimum levels of production to accomplish plant operational targets set by the departmental management team and business.
Your responsibilities within this role will see you actively participate in safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, take part in investigations, actively pursuing preventative actions and improvements of process and plant and also dealing with incidents and reporting near misses to your team leader. Ensuring that all environmental requirements are met through monitoring and proactive assessments of plant and trends. Working closely with the engineering department you will ensure within your teams that yearly outage plans are running to target by shutting down and starting up plant in line with our operational procedures and requirements.
You will receive an excellent training package delivered through various training modules, whilst also working closely with your Team Leader, being mentored and actively guided you will be expected to participate in development of bespoke station strategies, reviewing safe operating procedures and the application of British Steel policies and procedures. You will actively contribute to the continuous improvement which will contribute to drive the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant. You will also be set objectives and be responsible for delivering these through continuous monitoring and review process. We endeavour to ensure a high level of competence is attained to allow you to monitor, review analyse trends for station performance, complete start-ups, shutdowns, and safe isolations of plant equipment in accordance with our safe working practices and procedures.
What we need to know about you
We would like you to currently be or have previously been working in a 24/7 continuous process within a production, engineering, or operations environment. Key areas we are looking for people to have experience / skills in, but not all required as role specific training will be provided:
· Engineering discipline or experience in a Mechanical / Electrical /Instrumentation field is desirable but not essential for the role.
· A Good standard of English and Mathematics is required as role requires report writing.
· A broad knowledge of EHS guidelines
· Proficient in taking readings, sampling, monitoring of plant areas & emissions, root cause and fault finding, problem solving, continuous improvement, following procedures & processes and good house keeping
· Adaptable and able to quickly learn Plant / processes for shut down & start up in normal and abnormal operations.
· Working a 24/7 Shift pattern consisting of 12 hour shifts 4 Days On (2 days / 2 nights) 4 Rota Days Off.
· Monitoring of and responding to trends and plant conditions via SCADA, DCS or similar systems.
· Reading & using technical / P&ID drawings.
· Working to and contributing to KPI’s
· Understanding of safe systems of work processes: Permit to work; Incident control; Risk assessments; Method statements; Work instructions and SOPs (safe operating procedures)
· Possessing good root cause analysis techniques and being able to demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and an in-depth knowledge of manufacturing principles.
