The Role:


A great opportunity has arisen at Hovis for a Multiskilled Engineering Team Leader to join our team at Forest Gate and to be the driving force behind the best quality brand in bakery. You will have an opportunity to be responsible for generating improvements across our bakery site and working collaboratively with the rest of the Engineering team and wider site.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Day to day supervision of the duty reactive engineering team ensuring self and team adhere to relevant legislative Regulations and Hovis policies, procedures and guidelines. Exercise accountability and responsibility through a duty of care for those activities undertaken by direct reportees
  • Provide support and direction to ensure all staff adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Liaise with duty Manufacturing FLM throughout the duty shift to agree the priorities & support RCA’s
  • First line of contact for manufacturing and despatch, reallocating engineering resource to suit changing priorities
  • Supervise visiting contractors where engineering Coordinators are off site, adhering to the approved contractor process to include possible intermediate inductions
  • Communicate shared work load progress or resource requests with engineering day team
  • Ensure self and team work to Current Good Manufacturing Practices at all times
  • Conduct effective, recorded shift handover at start and end of duty shift
  • Lead and support engineering shift team to encourage best practice applied throughout scope of engineering activities
  • Work with Engineering Coordinators to satisfy Planned Preventive Maintenance schedules
  • Identify Critical spares to best enable rapid breakdown response
  • Identify and communicate realistic Engineering team training requirements to best suit the bakery needs
  • Actively engage in and instigate site improvement projects
  • Participate in the Personal Development Review process with line Manager
  • Conduct first stage disciplinary interviews to include return to work interviews
  • Manage and adhere to planned diary appointments
  • Control of relevant files, including electronic storage and hard copy filing
  • Conduct and accompany cross departmental COP and TOP tours
  • Support the Generation of new Engineering documents – e.g. S.O.P (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Deputise for similar functions within areas of knowledge and responsibility across the department
  • Support all other duties relevant to the role as deemed necessary by the Engineering Manager
  • May be required to carry out duties within the production area, where relevant training must be undertaken


Ideal Experiences / Qualifications / Capabilities:


  • Multi-skilled engineering background
  • Knowledge of process equipment & plant
  • Able to self manage and prioritise own work load to satisfy commitments and meet agreed deadlines
  • Must be flexible with hours when required to meet the needs of the business
  • Have reasonable fitness
  • GSCE Grade C or above in English & Maths or equivalent
  • Flexible and able to manage a number of concurrent priorities
  • Basic computer literacy (system training will be given)
  • Proven Engineering experience & aptitude
  • Self motivated
  • Effective verbal & written communication skills
  • Risk Assessments involvement
  • Site Permits to Work process
  • Basic Knowledge of RCA process
  • Pest Control Awareness
