Due to alignment and improvement of services, we are able to increase our vascular /amputee therapy hub. We now have a full time band 6 and band 7 opportunity within this newly expanded service. A band 7 Occupational Therapist clinical lead is a fabulous and rare opening within our vascular / surgical services.

We are a close working team with an already existing structure lead by band 7 Occupational therapy team manager, rotational band 5’s and a supportive highly skilled therapy technicians to support. The Occupational Therapy Team specialise in complex assessment and discharge planning throughout the hospital. As an OT within vascular surgery you will work as part of the larger MDT to ensure high quality care treatment and interventions for this particularly vulnerable group. Specialising in amputee acute intervention , wheelchair assessments, cognitive assessments to ascertain discharge plans you will be have the specialist skills to make high risk decisions and supporting junior staff to develop too .

You will need to be able to work in an autonomous way to facilitate good communication and effectively link with multiple on site and external teams. As well as vascular surgery you will have the chance to work with a broad range of patients in areas including general surgery, Orthopaedic surgeries, and palliative care. High quality clinical supervision is provided for all our staff. You will be supported with your professional development and training from the Team manager and Professional Lead.

To be a Clinical Specialist in the acute trust namely for the Vascular/Surgical wards.

To undertake advanced assessment of patients referred in to the department with a diverse range of conditions. To provide a diagnosis, as well as develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme to patients.

To manage own caseload of patients, taking responsibility for assessing, treating and discharging these patients and undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

To be the representative of the team in presentations and meetings with internal and external agencies

To supervise and teach less experienced occupational therapists, assistants and under-graduate students.

To demonstrate leadership and be responsible for all the team members in relation to providing training within evidence based practice. To supervise Occupational Therapy staff and students. To deputise for the Occupational Therapy Manager in their absence when requested.

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your work including management of patient caseloads.

Formulate and develop individual treatment programmes underpinned by sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and using a range of treatment options.

Use clinical reasoning skills and evaluate outcomes of treatments to continually reassess and develop treatment programmes.

Establish an accurate prognosis and recommend best course of treatments in addition to developing comprehensive treatment and discharge plans.

Use a large range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate with patients to progress and gain participation with rehabilitation treatment programmes. This will include patients who have difficulties in understanding and communicating.

To be responsible for management of clinical risk of your own caseload.

To work within Trust and Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) guidelines, have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and other working practices in liaison with Senior Occupational Therapists

To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all equipment.

To be responsible for maintaining own competencies through CPD activities.

To be responsible for teaching student occupational therapists to graduate level on knowledge and skills within your department.

To provide support, guidance and training to junior staff and assistants and contribute to their performance assessment and appraisal.

To participate in staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with agreed personal development plan to meet objectives and competencies.

To maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence-based, developing specialist knowledge of relevant conditions.

To participate in audit/evidence-based projects/research to help develop improvements to service delivery and clinical practice, under guidance of senior staff.

Be an active member of the department’s In-Service Training Programme

To carry out assessments and discharges on the Acute wards on a Saturday or Sunday on an additional hours rota basis.

To be responsible for organisation and planning of own caseload to meet service and patient priorities. Re-adjusting plans as situations change, arise and interruptions change priorities.

To comply with all relevant Trust policies procedures, Professional standards and guidelines (RCOT) and the relevant Code of Conduct (HCPC). This will including those relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Confidentiality of Information and attend all mandatory training.
