Job description
We’re looking for people who can demonstrate the potential and desire to become great Team Leaders through an apprenticeship that blends work and study. If that sounds like you, please read both the information below and the attached candidate pack.
Overview
HMCTS is an agency of the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and provides the supporting administration for the Judiciary across England and Wales. It delivers services to the public directly in court and tribunal buildings, remotely via business and service centres and through digital services online. HMCTS is embarking on a period of momentous change. This includes speeding up and streamlining our working practices and providing much improved services for service users.
National Business Centres (NBC) were established in 2012 to provide administrative and customer service support to HMCTS. The region brings together several jurisdictions and takes on key administrative tasks such as processing, listing of cases, and dealing with correspondence and enquiries. The region is a key part of HMCTS strategy to deliver an effective and efficient service to our users, standardising and improving processes to provide a consistent level of service.
Strong leadership is a critical element in this being successful. HMCTS leaders and managers are expected to operate a culture of openness and honesty, demonstrating a commitment to change and delivering results.
If successful, as an NBC Team Leader Apprentice you will provide clear direction and focus, visibly championing efficiency, and change. You will be supported to do this via:
- a high-quality structured apprenticeship training programme leading to externally recognised and accredited leadership and management qualifications
- regular coaching and development conversations with your line manager
- a buddy or mentor
- a network of apprentices around the region
Successful NBC Team Leader Apprentice candidates will:
- Manage and plan the workload of a team providing administrative support and excellent customer service to all stakeholders, judiciary, and management.
- Lead and manage a team of staff, ensuring that its members are organised and fully skilled to meet their work objectives, using continuous improvement tools.
- To assist in the delivery of performance against targets.
- Work in a flexible way and undertake any other duties reasonably requested by line management which are commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post.
- Be expected to complete their apprenticeship studies. You will be allocated an average of 7.4 hours of work time per week (for full-time employees) to complete relevant development activities as part of the apprenticeship.
- Please read the candidate pack attached carefully for full details of the apprenticeship job description and eligibility criteria.
Application form stage assessments
Please read the candidate pack carefully for further details on how to apply. You will be asked to provide a 500-word statement of suitability. With reference to the job description, please tell us how you would manage team performance and workloads effectively and what skills you hope to develop
As this is an apprenticeship, we are looking for applications demonstrating line management potential. You do not need to have line management experience for your application to be successful, but you do need to be able to demonstrate leadership skills. If you do already have line management experience, we’d welcome that with the expectation that you will continue to develop as a line manager.
