Job Title: Teaching Assistant 2
Salary Range: TA2 Grade 2, Point 3-5 (£20,812 – £21,575 Pro Rata)
32.5 hours per week - Term Time plus 1 week
Purpose:
To work with teachers to support the teaching, learning and emotional well-being of students within the academy, to enable groups of students to make best use of the educational opportunities available to them.
Working Conditions:
- May be required to stand for long periods and or work in awkward positions
- Some exposure to unpleasant conditions e.g. noise, outdoor working.
Core Duties:
- Work with individuals or small groups of students in the classroom or Progress Centre under the direct supervision of teaching staff.
- Work with individual pupils with special educational needs and/or with pupils for whom English is not their first language.
- Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities to students’ responses as appropriate.
- Participate in planning and evaluation of learning activities with the teacher.
- Support independent learning and inclusion of all students.
- Provide feedback to students in relation to attainment and progress under the direction of the teacher.
- Assist with the development of individual development plans for pupils e.g. IEPs.
- Select, prepare and clear away classroom materials and learning areas ensuring they are available for use, including developing and presenting displays in subject areas.
- Arrange/provide resources for lessons/activities under the guidance of the SENCO/teacher.
- Invigilate and/or support in exams and tests.
- Escort students on educational visits.
- Assist with break time supervision, including facilitating games and activities.
- Assist pupils with dressing, hygiene and eating, whilst encouraging independence.
- Support pupils emotional and social well-being, reporting any problems to the SENCO/teacher.
- Support with the careful and safe use of equipment.
- Demonstrate own duties to new or less experienced staff.
- Support the work of volunteers and other providers in the classroom.
- Share information about students with other staff, parents/carers, internal and external agencies as appropriate; maintain appropriate record keeping.
- Support the teacher in monitoring, accessing, and recording student progress under the guidance of the teacher.
Other Duties:
To assist the Principal in ensuring that the academy runs smoothly, and acting in a management capacity, as the need arises. This includes:
- Actively promoting the academy’s high expectations and equal opportunities policy.
- Maintaining sound procedures for security, supervision, and maintenance of the school environment, ensuring that all safeguarding/health and safety regulations are met.
- Modeling the highest standards of professional conduct, supporting and driving excellence in all practice within the academy; ensuring that Cliff Park Ormiston Academy and the Ormiston Academies Trust is always presented positively within and beyond the academy.
Performance Management:
The post holder will participate in the academy’s arrangements for Performance Management.
Notes:
- All staff are part of a wider academy team. Each individual, therefore, is required to support the values/ethos of the academy and the academy priorities as defined in the Academy Improvement Plan. This will mean being responsive to the needs of colleagues, parents and students and being flexible in a demanding environment. On occasions the post holder may be expected to carry out additional tasks, as requested by the Principal and Governors, which are not specifically specified in this job description.
- All staff in the academy work subject to statute and academy policies and procedures. The post holder will be expected to become familiar with these and work in accordance with them.
- This is a new job profile for a new post. It will be for a probationary period of 6 months initially and is subject to review with the post holder from time to time.
- Due to the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of Criminal Record Disclosure to be undertaken. It is essential that post holders disclose whether they have any pending charges, convictions, bind-overs or cautions and if so, for which offences. Any failure to disclose such convictions will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the academy.
