Job description

Plympton Academy (Part of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust) is seeking to appoint an Apprentice Teaching Assistant to join our team.


The successful candidate will undertake a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship. You will be supported with excellent training to become an skilled and valued team member. Key responsibilities include enabling pupils’ access to learning by supervising and assisting pupils (one to one and in small groups) across a wide range of activities and supported learning activities.

Apprenticeship Details:


  • Level 3 Standard Teaching Assistant Qualification. ( Expected Duration: 16 months )
  • Training Provider: LMP Education (Rated 3rd best apprentice provider across the UK!) Qualification delivered online/remote, alongside the full time job role.
  • Hours: 30 p/w, 39 weeks per year (Term Time only role).
  • Location: Plympton Academy
  • Minimum Salary : £6.50 p/h . (Above the national apprentice wage).
  • You will hold GCSE or equivalent Maths & English GCSE/ Functional Skills Equivalent (Grade 4/C or Level 2).

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assisting with all activities to support learning outcomes using the teachers planned teaching and learning methods.
  • Providing unobtrusive guidance and support to enable pupils to find answers to questions and tasks set, using knowledge of each pupils differing levels of development and ability to ensure progression and continuity.
  • Supervise individual or small groups of pupils undertaking teacher led learning activities by coordinating and explaining basis instructions for the activities, adjusting activities within the scope of the lesion plane and learning outcomes in response to the pupils learning.
  • Assisting pupil achievement by monitoring learning against learning outcomes, informing the teacher of progress/problems that arise.
  • Assist pupils to develop their independence through undertaking tasks.
  • Support the use of IT as a tool to enable learning.
  • Support the development of the literacy and numeracy skills of pupils from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Assist with special activities in the school within school hours (e.g. Sports days, plays, concerts, open days) accompany on school visits, projects etc.
  • Ensure that pupils work and play together positively and cooperatively with good behavior.

Planning:

  • Assist with the planning of learning activities by identifying and preparing resources required to support lesson plans, learning outcomes.
  • The preparation of materials / equipment (E.g. Books, pencils, supplies, games, AVA).
  • Maintaining the classroom resources and designated areas.
  • Arrange class room to create a positive learning environment including arranging classroom displays.
  • To work with colleagues to achieve service plan objectives and targets in a collaborative approach.
  • Develop effective professional relationship with colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development , implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s values and vision, making a positive contribution to the wider life of the school.
  • Encourage and promote the social and emotional development of pupils.
  • Uphold public/ parents trust in the wider education profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviors.
  • Demonstrate positive attitudes values and have a professional regard for ethos , policies and practices.
