Job description

Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children with special needs? Are you experienced in providing one-to-one support to children with autism? We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join our mainstream primary school in Birmingham City Centre.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to a child in reception with autism, focusing on their individual needs and personal care.
  • Assist the child in their academic, social, and emotional development, helping them to engage with the curriculum and participate in classroom activities.
  • Create and implement personalised learning strategies to support the child's educational progress and facilitate their inclusion within the classroom environment.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring the child feels safe, respected, and supported.
  • Collaborate closely with the class teacher and the school's SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to develop and implement appropriate interventions and strategies.
  • Record and monitor the child's progress, keeping accurate and up-to-date records of their achievements, challenges, and behavior.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, providing regular updates on the child's progress and involving them in the child's educational journey.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience working with children with autism and providing personal care, ideally in an educational setting.
  • A patient and empathetic approach to working with children with special needs, particularly autism.
  • Good understanding of autism and strategies to support children with autism in a mainstream school setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues, parents/guardians, and external professionals.
  • Ability to adapt teaching techniques and learning materials to meet the child's individual needs.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a high standard of professionalism.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special needs education or autism would be advantageous.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £85.00-£95.00 per day

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Birmingham: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:

  • A-Level or equivalent (preferred)

Experience:

  • Special education: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence (preferred)
