Teaching and Research Technician
Are you an experienced laboratory technician with a background in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design? Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge as part of one of the leading Universities in the country? Do you want to make a difference to world class teaching and research activities and help deliver an excellent learning experience for our students?
We are looking for an enthusiastic, professional, and proactive individual to join our team, working closely with technicians, students, and academic staff to support teaching, research and general activities in our workshops and laboratories.
In the School of Mechanical Engineering, we have a track record of delivering excellence in research and teaching based around solving real world problems. We have more than 300 people actively involved in research or teaching including 70 academic staff and over 20 technical staff.
Our world-class expertise extends to; design systems, solid mechanics, robotics and mechatronics, vehicle design, surgical technologies, dynamics and control, optimisation and aerospace, engineering systems, thermo-fluids, surfaces, and interfaces; robotics, product design, medical devices, and regenerative medicine.
You will work collaboratively with technicians, students, and academic staff to support our teaching and research activities within the school. The role will also support the introduction of new CNC machines as part of our commitment to developing our teaching facilities. The CNC Facility will be located in a newly created space and shared between the schools of Mechanical Engineering and Physics.
You will have served a recognised apprenticeship in a Mechanical Engineering discipline, or have a BTEC Level 4 or HNC, or have equivalent relevant experience. You will have experience in using conventional machine tools, and ideally CNC machines and 3D CAD, but this is not essential as training can be provided. We are looking for someone with a passion to support our students to excel in a design and engineering workshop environment.
