Job description
The Perse is one of the country’s leading co-educational independent day schools, providing a high quality education to pupils aged 3-18 in Cambridge.
An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Perse School to appoint a Teacher of Classics and Ancient History. The highly successful Classics department offers three separate subjects: Latin, Classical Greek and Ancient History. Latin is compulsory in Year 7 and 8, with students being introduced to the language, with a focus on developing translation skills and building a foundational vocabulary. Classical Greek is introduced to students in Year 9 via our Gratin provision (Greek and Latin). The Year 9 Ancient History course has been designed to provide an overview of the Greek and Roman worlds, also laying the foundations and developing the skills for the GCSE course in Years 10 and 11. There are consistently strong numbers at GCSE, with all three subjects following the OCR course. The department consistently achieves outstanding results at both GCSE and A-level, with a number of A-level linguists choosing to read Classics or a related degree. The successful candidate will have a clear passion for all three aspects of classics and ancient history, with the ability to motivate and inspire the ambitious pupils at The Perse School.
