The department
Our Art School is a vibrant, inspirational and engaging creative environment where we seek to develop each individuals’ artistic interests, creativity and confidence through exploration, experimentation, and a strong emphasis on drawing. The freedom within each of the artistic routes allows pupils to produce work which blurs the boundaries between disciplines. Central to each pupil’s artistic development is inspiration gained through first-hand visual experience, informed by an understanding of both historical and contemporary practice. Pupils are encouraged to compile their own sketchbooks and written accounts and to discuss their understanding and views on the cultural environments they experience.
The Art School is situated in the Cloisters at the heart of the School, bridging four studios. Within this space is a print-making studio, a sculpture studio and a kiln room. Also housed within the Art School is a History of Art room, library, computer suite and the Yarrow Gallery. The studios are equipped with the very latest equipment to deliver a multi-disciplinary approach. The atmosphere of these studios enable pupils to work in a creative and personal manner, knowing that their endeavors will be encouraged and that their opinions will be respected by both their teachers and their peers.
