- Taxi Driver
- Picking up and delivering customers.
- Taking the fastest and safest route.
- Helping to load and unload the vehicle.
- Calculating the right fare and returning the correct change.
- Keeping your vehicle clean and in good working order
Requirements for driving a taxi in Central Bedfordshire:
All new applicants must take an online knowledge test to attain a dual badge. The test will be broken into 7 categories which include questions on:
- driver and vehicle conditions
- Highway Code
- road signs
- comprehension
- customer care
- points of interest
You can't apply for the knowledge test if you haven't:
- held a DVLA licence for 12 months
- got a current UK visa for at least 18 months
- your knowledge test pass certificate
- practical driving assessment: you will need to be assessed by our transport team; find out how to pay for your assessment
- child sexual exploitation (CSE) certificate: dates will be provided
- driving licence details (share your driving licence details)
- medical certificate: view or download medical certificate (PDF)
- DVLA photo card licence
- proof of right to work in the UK; if you are not a British Citizen, you must supply a right-to-work check code –
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) criminal check will also need to be done.
If you are already a taxi driver in the area and have done this you may not need to complete these steps
