A permanent opportunity for an Associate Tax Accountant has opened up within our UK tax team based near Cambridge.
We are currently looking to hire an Associate Tax Accountant into the UK Tax team who is able to manage a full and varied workload and has good attention to detail. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Tax Department at Thermo Fisher Scientific with support from the company in obtaining a tax or accounting qualification.
The successful applicant will report to the Director, Tax and assist them to ensure the company remains compliant with all relevant tax legislation in the UK and internationally and will be involved in a range of projects. The role provides a great opportunity to develop knowledge of corporate tax within a large organisation.
This role would be a perfect opportunity for a recent university leaver or someone looking to start a career in tax.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with reviews/sign off for tax compliance in the UK and internationally
- Analysing large amounts of data related to global R&D tax credit claims
- Reporting of cash taxes paid and reconciliation of tax accounts
- Understanding and documenting tax processes and controls
- Managing the tax team shared mailbox
- Responding to business queries related to tax matters
- Monitoring changes in case law, legislation and regulation
- Researching tax topics under the guidance of the rest of the tax team
- Participation in internal projects to ensure direct tax compliance, providing advice and support for any tax advisory questions, utilising third party resource as necessary
- Working closely with a range of colleagues from across the business to provide tax support
- Supporting key relationships e.g. internal colleagues, tax authorities and external advisers.
Knowledge, Skills And Competencies
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
Functional/Technical
- Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
- Ability to work with a range of technically and culturally diverse people
- Ability to work autonomously
- Excellent IT skills e.g in MS Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Exceptional analytical skills and ability to assess and resolve problems
- Establishing formal relationships with corporate accounting teams to ensure tax risks are identified and tax reporting is in accordance with statutory regulations
- Enjoys working in a team-oriented environment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication to facilitate relationships with peers, advisers and senior management
- Ability to work with advanced and continuously developing technology solutions
- Experience of Oracle or Oracle cloud accounting system would be an advantage.
