Systems Engineer - ISR

Primary Purpose of Role
The purpose of this role is to provide Systems Engineering support to enhance Future ISR concepts, digital products, MVP/POCs and customer (principally DSTL)-funded research activities.
The position is a permanent role within the DMS/ISR Technical Directorate, Future ISR Research & Development team.
The ISR Futures Team is responsible for positioning ISR as a thought leader within industry through the execution of SFR&D and the capture of relevant CFR&D studies and research topics around generation after next technologies and solutions.
This position will focus upon delivery of Digital Transformation and Low TRL SFRD and CFRD projects including Proof of Concept (PoC) demonstrators and Minimum Viable Products (MVPs). It is a fast-paced, agile development team embracing Digital Transformation culture, behaviours and ways of working.
Main Activities
The position will be responsible for:
- Design, develop, integrate, test, deliver and support complex systems architecture/design solutions
- Interpreting and analyzing MOD CFRD RFQ/RFI and Statements of Requirement in order to advise the business on potential bid opportunities
- Writing winning bid response proposals to meet ISR Strategy and customer requirements
- Interpreting and analyzing requirements obtained/derived from customer and corporate specifications and wider market drivers
- Developing innovative solutions, including the specification of software, hardware and HMIs and managing sub-contracted work packages
- Participating in the development, testing, and modelling of ISTAR Systems (concepts and prototypes) associated with programmes, products and business capture activities
- Supporting ISR Domain exercises, trials, research and experimentation
- Preparing Technical Statements of Work for subsystem suppliers
- Reviewing system specifications and other documentation associated with ISTAR System technical solutions
- Reviewing inputs to the solution architectures as well as determining cost and schedule impacts that result from these developments

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required
- Strong capabilities in systems design including: system (and systems of systems) design, performance requirements definition, VV&T, and integration into synthetic environments for defence related activities or equivalent
- Experience in technical design, estimating and project scoping of work packages or equivalent.
- Experience in the use of Synthetic Environments to test and demonstrate ISR concepts
- Knowledge of network architectures, current networking technologies, security requirements and features of networks and applications would be beneficial
Additional Information
- Prior Military Experience or knowledge through working with the MOD would be preferred
Education and Qualifications
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Physics or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Ideally achieved or working towards Chartered status of a relevant professional body such as the IoP or similar
- Ability to speak fluently additional languages, such as French, would be an advantage
