Our client has been established for nearly 50 years providing cutting edge technology improving safety and operations for naval and commercial shipping, luxury yachts and special purpose craft such as lifeboats worldwide. Â Due to expansion they are looking for an additional Systems Engineer to be responsible for specifying and designing systems taking responsibility for the engineering component of these, through to testing, commissioning, and customer hand over. Duties:
- Act as technical lead for projects
- Support other Systems, and Lead Project Engineers on other projects
- Produce Functional Design Specifications from customer specifications
- Produce block diagrams, system schematics, bill of materials and cable schedules
- Program PLC, HMI & SCADA Systems
- Produce technical documentation, including manuals and test procedures
- Assist with internal and customer Factory Acceptance Tests
- Travel worldwide to perform commissioning
- Conduct Harbour and Sea Acceptance Trials through to customer handover
- Attend meetings with customers and other departments on and off site
- Assist with the development and assessment of new products
Skills & Experience:
- Must be qualified to HNC level or above in a relevant electronic/electrical discipline
- Must have experience of Controls, Automation, Electrical and Electronics Integration
- Knowledge of PLC & SCADA based software packages and structured programming languages is required
- PLC programming using IEC 61131-3 programming languages is desirable along with experience of Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi and Wago PLCs
- P&ID drawing experience is essential, CAD software, Visio and E-Plan Electric P8 would be preferable
- Able to work in a team whilst at the same time demonstrating initiative and the ability to work without supervision
- You will need solid problem solving, decision making and analytical capabilities with good attention to detail
- Competent in computer technology and Ethernet networks is desirable as is Industrial communication protocols e.g. Modbus, Canbus & Profibus
- A working knowledge of ships including automation, power, propulsion, navigation, and communications is preferable
- Must have the right to live & work in UK with a minimum of 3 years residency to qualify for MoD SC
- Must be able to travel worldwide, sometimes for extended periods, and occasionally at short notice, to work on a variety of marine vessels, either afloat or in shipyards is essential along with a full Clean Driving Licence
