Department Overview

The group's main business is the implementation of mission critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers.The Post-Sale Systems Engineering team is the technical lifeblood of the Systems Integration organization. Our engineers design and implement the innovative communications solutions that make a difference "In the Moments That Matter". As the solution architect and technical consulting lead, the Systems Engineering team has the end-to-end design, technology consultancy, and implementation responsibility for all post-sale project engagements. The Systems Engineering team delivers customer driven, world-class, leading edge, end-to-end solutions that rise to the challenges of our First Responder and Government customers.
The Engineering team concentrates on the following mission-critical communications technologies at all levels of complexity (ie: from small municipal systems to large metropolitan and state-wide solutions).
- Public safety grade mobile voice and data communications networks
- Advanced mobile devices
- Public safety mobile broadband networks and devices (LTE)
- Integrated Command and Control (911 dispatch consoles, advanced video surveillance, and other public safety applications)
Job Description
Note: The preferred candidate will reside in San Diego or Los Angeles metropolitan area.
Travel: 25% to 50% is required within the West Region to support all project phases, from design through final acceptance.
Responsibilities:
The Systems Engineer will take responsibility for and oversee all technical aspects of the assigned project from proposal award until system acceptance.
This involves:
- Final Design and implementation of the radio network including infrastructure, subscribers, power systems design, equipment shelter and tower designs, and backhaul network design including microwave, leased line, and customer provided Ethernet networks
- Customer presentations
- System staging
- System acceptance testing
- Radio coverage testing and interference mitigation
- Radio system licensing (FCC/Industry Canada/NTIA)
- Preparation of system fleetmap, encryption, and radio programming templates
- Complete system documentation
- Live system cutovers and upgrades
- Additional Preferred Skills:
- Experience in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless or broadband/LTE networks
- Good understanding and working knowledge in IP networking, network design methodologies & troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS)
- Certifications through CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar
- Experience directly working with end-user customers is desirable
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.
- Self-motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment
- Previous knowledge and experience working with Juniper, Aviat, Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel, Xtreme, and/or Ceragon equipment
- Experience with switching and routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, iBGP, eBGP, M-BGP, MPLS RSVP TE, and LDP)

Approx. salary range: $65,900.00 - $109,000.00
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline or similar and 1+ years of engineering or technical experience
- OR 3 years of engineering or technical experience
