At Dyson we are encouraged to think differently, challenge convention and be unafraid to make mistakes. We’re creative, collaborative, practical and enthusiastic. But most of all we’re hugely passionate about what we do.

Dyson offers a unique opportunity for talented individuals to invent, design and develop market leading products for the global market. By working in our world-class research, design and development (RDD) department, these individuals have the opportunity to work alongside leading technical specialists and highly motivated creative people to create products which fulfil our ambition of being truly different and better than our competitors.

We are looking for enthusiastic Systems Engineers at all levels, including Senior, Lead and Associate Principal Systems Engineers, to join our growing team.

About the role

Dyson develop products which are deliberately different and verifiably better than the competition. We’re rapidly expanding our Product Systems Engineering (PSE) team to help us manage that complexity and ultimately get our new ideas to market sooner.

All of our product systems engineers help us to realise this capability:

  • They work at the core of our early-stage product development teams using systems engineering tools and methods to bring clarity from ambiguity.

  • Translate our product vision into clear and concise user, business, and product requirements.

  • Using MBSE methods to develop product architectures, decomposing the problem into digestible functional, physical, logical, and behavioural chunks.

  • Creating unambiguous useable requirements for engineers to design to.

  • Build and coordinate system wide simulations to help us balance requirements early.

  • Work collaboratively with all our engineering teams to clarify work packages, manage trade-off studies, and resolve engineering issues.

  • Lead and coach a growing core team of Systems Engineers of all levels of expertise. Coaching & Mentoring exists at all levels and in all directions within the Product Systems Engineering team.

  • Driving the Systems Engineering process and ethos into the wider company, educating other RDD employees in Systems Engineering to resolve technical challenges

  • Following a Leader-Leader mentality working as an emancipated team.

Associate Principal Engineers will also be responsible for:

  • Specific mentoring & coaching of Senior/Lead Systems engineers to continue their development towards being an AP themselves

  • Driving Senior Management to continue the PSE growth and improvement within Dyson

  • Helping us pivot our focus from products to product platforms to maximise reuse of engineering effort.
