GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The position is responsible for assisting the Network Systems Administrator with the maintenance and administration of the NHREC local and wide - wired and wireless computing network for the delivery, assessment, data management, reporting and operational functions of educational services. Under the direction of the Network Systems Administrator, the position carries out coordination, installation, testing, and technical tasks in support of the local and wide area wired and wireless network systems. The position participates in developing and implementing network security procedures and network management plans. The position is also responsible for web-based application and database development; providing protection for students and staff through security hardware and software content filtering and network security services; provides support and repair services for network and client equipment and machines, and conducts support and training for New Horizons staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Network Systems Administration:
- Assists with designing and configuring the school’s local and wide area computer networks under the direction of the Network Systems Administrator.
- Installs and tests network servers, operating system software, hubs, routers, switches, cabling, and other related network components/equipment.
- Maintains, repairs, upgrades, and enhances network operating systems, network cabling infrastructure, and other related components.
- Troubleshoots network failures and errors; and diagnoses, isolates, and resolves routine to moderately/highly complex network related problems ensuring timely results and minimal disruption of operations.
- Implements, installs, configures, monitors, troubleshoots, and evaluates both physical and virtual servers, and enterprise applications.
- Responsible for maintaining proper security on managed servers.
- Performs scheduled backup operations that include ensuring backups are successfully accomplished.
- Manages Active Directory forest and tree organizational units, user accounts, passwords, Group Policy, and file-level permissions.
- Provide training and support to end-users, as necessary, regarding the use and features of the network and VoIP system.
- Responsible for documenting the configuration of managed servers and services.
- Provide protection for students and staff through security hardware and software content filtering and network security services; assist in the definition of acceptable network use policy and enforcement of that policy.
Application Development:
- Develops, maintains, and supports database-driven web interface applications and assists users in the proper and efficient use of those applications.
- Develops the technical architecture of web sites including scripting, database design, and user interface design.
- Gathers feedback from management and users regarding NHREC applications and makes appropriate modifications and enhancements to attract repeat users.
General:
- At times, performs after-hours system support during scheduled and unscheduled outages and standard monthly patching requirements.
- Maintains a current knowledge of rapidly changing computer technology.
- Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Network Systems Administrator in his/her absence.
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by Network Systems Administrator.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Must possess an Associate’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related field and experience in computer and network support or any combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Extensive related experience in the field may substitute for a college degree. Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Desktop and Server operating systems, Active Directory, Group Policy, application development, database administration, Ethernet switched wired and wireless networks, TCP/IP address and routing. Experience in writing system documentation, system specifications, system requirements, presentations, correspondence, studies, reports, and training materials. Demonstrated ability to properly develop and maintain accurate documentation. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers served and associated support personnel in a mixed Microsoft, Linux, and Apple environment. Ability to effectively explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical personnel. Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record.
