About the Role
As part of LMUK Ampthill’s engineering organisation you will conduct safety programmes within a product development team and generate safety cases that comply with company process and appropriate MOD safety standards. A working knowledge of safety assessments and safety cases in nuclear projects will be an advantage. The types of activity you will undertake include:
- Development and execution of safety plans in accordance with the customer and safety management requirements for complex systems.
- Perform safety analysis of designs for products and systems (including associated support equipment and facilities where applicable) including safety review of design artefacts and documentation.
- Development of acceptable risk criteria definition, hazard identification and hazard analysis using appropriate techniques (such as use of checklist, HAZOPS, SWIFT, Fault Tree and Event Tree Analysis).
- Derivation of safety requirements for products and systems to mitigate identified hazards and risks including the evaluation the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other system requirements.
- Development and delivery of appropriate ALARP optioneering and arguments.
- The identification and analysis of appropriate safety legislation and standards and support the development of evidence to demonstrate compliance.
- Development of safety requirements for sub-systems and the review and guidance of supplier safety programmes and artefacts to ensure suitable safety compliance is obtained. Audit of suppliers against suitable safety standards.
- Generation of suitable and safety artefacts including safety case reports and hazard logs to successfully support certification and entry into service of products and systems. Including the presentation of safety arguments at design reviews and safety panels.
- Delivery of safety assessments and suitable safety management to support testing, demonstration and trials activities.
Required skills, qualifications and experience
- Familiar with the relevant Safety Standards and requirement for the development of hazardous and safety related systems.
- Familiar in the safety assessment for nuclear and other complex specialist domains
- Proven experience in a systems or function safety role involved in product development
- Detailed understanding and experience of UK safety legislation and associated harmonised standards.
- Experience with IT based toolsets common to the system safety discipline
- Competent in the use of MS-Office applications.
- The role will require the candidate to have good verbal and written skills.
- Knowledge of functional safety including the determination and allocation of SILs for Electrical/Electronic and Programmable Electronic (software) systems is desirable.
- All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role (DV is required).
