Job Description Summary
Portfolio Analytics and Insights (PA) is a shared service which exists to build and run a portfolio of business analytical capabilities across Business and Commercial Banking (BCB) and CIB (Corporate and Institutional Banking). This involves supporting Products teams, growing our business through co-ordinated client propositions, and improving BCB and CIB’s client insight, digitisation, and innovation.
Job Description
The Sustainability Quantitative Analyst role sits within the Quantitative Analytics Team and presents an exciting opportunity to support the Sustainability Team within Portfolio Analytics and Insights as the main partner. The team has a key role in collaborating with colleagues across BCB and CIB, Risk, Finance and CDAO to develop the data, methodologies, and systems to embed ESG metrics and targets across the business, all while working within a supportive and agile team. The team sits within Portfolio Analytics to ensure standard process and alignment with the wider group analytics and data activity.
The Quantitative Analytics function is responsible for building the quantitative methods to support the analytics capability of Commercial Banking, advising, and directing the technical credit risk methodology and developing statistical methods to drive growth.
Beyond the sustainability focus, the quantitative analytics team supports the following areas which you'll have the opportunity to get involved with:
- Own methodology and lead software implementation of Return on Risk Adjusted Capital models (RoRAC) to support origination of Commercial Lending products.
- Act as the main leader and very close connection to the business partners for agreeing plan of action and delivery progress.
- Support Portfolio Management and Product teams to define streamlined pricing discretion framework and governance processes, such as incorporating returns in exception decisions and regular pricing refreshes.
- Lead the innovation of pricing using the latest technologies and best industry practices.
- Developing and embedding use of advanced machine learning and statistical methods to identify and quantify opportunities for growth, through client acquisition and developing relationships.
Core purpose of the role:
Your focus will be split into 2 key areas
a) Develop pricing, portfolio management and capital methodologies to deliver BCB and CIB net zero targets and climate pricing.
b) Collaborate with teams across Commercial Banking and Risk to scope and develop quantitative tools to support the analytics capability on activities, such as asset pricing, portfolio management and capital allocation.
What you'll be doing:
- Translate requirements ranging from data sourcing and methodologies into tools and workflow management to deliver insights for net zero commitments at client, sector and portfolio level, informing decision-making at all levels.
- Develop an in-depth working knowledge of industry methodologies and standards relating to sustainability and the application of pricing, valuation, and capital allocation.
- Support to complete lifecycle of delivering pricing and capital methodologies to Commercial Banking, covering the design, prototyping, documentation, implementation, governance, and testing.
- Collaborate with platform teams and CDAO to develop the strategic data and model requirements to support delivery of BCB and CIB strategy.
- Undertake ad-hoc insight to support key initiatives.
- Build strong and trusted relationships with key partners across a wide variety of teams within BCB, CIB, Risk and CDAO to enable a solid understanding of requirements and support the delivery of valuable insight.
- Proactively look for opportunities to enhance the capability within the team, and support users on how to use and interpret data and methodologies for decision making.

You're the sort of person who is passionate about data/insight, sustainability/climate change and has the skills for problem solving who uses that approach to provide simple and effective solutions. You're also able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences and demonstrate a continuous curiosity actively encouraging innovative ways.
This role would suit someone who has a broad range of analytical skills and loves having a diverse portfolio of work to deliver.
We require a solid academic background (MSc/ PhD in Maths/ Statistics/Quantitative Finance) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant analytics experience.
Essential skills:
- Outstanding mathematical and analytics skills
- Solid experience with tools and languages such as SQL, R or Python
- Ability to utilise tooling for workflow management & collaboration eg. JIRA, Confluence
- Ability to manipulate and transform very large data sets to support practical insight.
- Ability to advise and influence a wide and diverse group of partners.
- Ability to think laterally, be innovative and find creative solutions.
- Strong teamwork; Enthusiasm to develop.
Desirable skills:
- Good understanding of BCB and CIB organisational design and systems architecture
- Awareness of the evolving ESG landscape
- Expertise in developing pricing or discount cash flow models (RaRoC)
- Knowledge or expertise in regulatory and economic capital methodology
- Basic knowledge of C#
- Financial engineering and valuation approaches on the banking book
