The Senior Sustainability Partner at ASOS sits within the Sustainability team as part of the Commercial ESG Sustainability function. You are critical to driving our Own-Buy Net Zero strategy to reduce our products carbon footprint by 58%. Working in the Sustainability Team is all about driving the ‘Fashion with Integrity’ element of the ASOS business strategy; from managing our suppliers sustainability journey, working with wider ASOS teams to reduce ASOS products carbon footprint, collaborating with our peers in the industry to drive collective change, and calculating our businesses scope 3 carbon footprint to continue to review and develop the OB strategy.
You will be working with a diverse and broad set of stakeholders to deliver our Fashion with Integrity goals. Working with a team of internal sustainability experts, while building relationships at a business, industry and supplier level to drive change and reduce the environmental impacts of our supply chain, from product manufacturers down to raw material producers.
Our offices are based in Mornington Crescent, Camden. You will be hybrid working, coming into the office 3 times per week.
What you’ll be doing…
Industry collaboration and stakeholder management
- Leading the agenda of the UK SAC Brand Forum with 12+ other brands, championing change and industry alignment to enable a quicker transition to a more sustainable supply chain.
- Managing relationships with ASOS suppliers and factories to identify carbon and water reduction opportunities, manage out Higg FEM risks, and offer a feedback loop to suppliers on our processes and policies to understand their needs.
- Championing alignment with industry peers in the methodology of calculate scope 3 emissions, including trialling the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s SBT proof-of-concept.
- Active member of Textile 2030, Metrics Group. Advising on new quantifiable improvement actions and reporting against their footprint tool.
- Employing the Apparel Impact Institute to install capabilities in ASOS T1 and T4 factories in carbon and water reduction strategies, capture learnings, and share best practice in the development of Green Factories Guidelines and Supplier Webinar series.
- Managing ASOS relationships with man-made cellulosic producers, signposting to different team members, monitoring their achievements and commitments against the Canopy Hot Button report, Changing Markets roadmap, and investment in Next Gen materials.
- Active Member of the Brand MMCF Round Table, driving change in the man-made cellulosic industry alongside industry peers and fellow signatories of the Changing Markets roadmap.
- Managing external relationships such as Canopy, Changing Markets Foundation, MMCF Round Table, Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Apparel Impact Institute, Textile 2030.
Internal programmes of work and collaboration
- Design and lead ASOS net zero strategy for supply chain scope 3: utilising Higg FEM data and building country and supplier profiles to advise the business on reduction strategies, exploring fibre switching, regional energy sources, and supplier strategies.
- Supporting the Junior Sustainability Partner, maintain an environment where they can thrive and grow.
- Calculate ASOS Scope 3 emissions using ASOS internal carbon calculator, championing data accuracy and replacement of data assumptions with real supply chain data.
- Working with commercial team to utilise Higg FEM data to build product level strategies to significantly reduce ASOS products carbon and water impacts.
- Work alongside the Head of Sustainability, Sustainable Product and Circular teams to deliver ambitious Net Zero targets, meet Transparency goals, and other public commitments.
- Work with Sourcing and Fabric teams to deploy Higg FEM at 80% T1 and 30% T4 by business volume.
- Continue the Supplier Webinar series to support factories to reduce their carbon, water and waste usage, encourage a culture of shared learning and staying curious.
- Working closely with Sourcing to manage existing supply base and newly onboarded suppliers against ASOS Fashion With Integrity goals.
- Achieving full visibility of the man-made cellulosic supply chain with 100% from Canopy Green Shirt suppliers.
- Creating policies, guides and resources for suppliers throughout the supply chain to support the reduction in their environmental footprint working closely with the ASOS Fabric, Technical and Compliance teams.
- Managing external reporting needs where needed for ASOS Plc website, annual CR Report, NGO’s & marketing activities, including industry benchmarks.
- Working with internal stakeholders such as legal, Marketing, Comms to review polices, and claims through internal and external reports.
- Keeping up to date with industry developments and sectoral risks and adapting ASOS sustainability programme accordingly
We’d love to meet, someone who…
- Is deeply passionate about sustainable fashion and has knowledge of the clothing and footwear fashion industry, particularly the supply chain
- Has worked in or with factories to successfully manage reductions in environmental impacts
- Has developed training, guides, manuals, and policies for different audiences
- Has experience in actively driving change within industry working groups
- Employs a flexible approach to challenging strategies and situations that are market leading
- Has held previous a sustainability role ideally within a fashion brand, sustainability consultancy or NGO.
- Can support ambitious KPI’s analysing data to meet ambitious targets and support strategy setting.
- Has excellent communication and presentation skills, confident to present data clearly & succinctly to a variety of Commercial audiences.
- Can travel for work.
- Is building a strong external sustainability network ideally within fashion retail, keeping abreast of industry developments.
- Can work as part of a team as well as work on your own capable or independent decision making.
- Has some project management experience.
