Role: Sustainability / Carbon Consultant

Location: Edinburgh or Glasgow

Our UK Sustainability and Climate Services Business has an exciting opportunity in Scotland for a Sustainability/ Carbon Consultant to join our team and support on a wide range of projects in sustainability, climate and decarbonisation. At its core, your role will help to deliver low carbon, climate resilient and sustainable outcomes for the projects we deliver.

The opportunity:

As a consultant you will work as part of a peer group of specialists and project managers, supported by a strong and diverse team of consultants and senior leaders. The role requires strong content knowledge in the field of sustainability and climate change, together with a sound understanding of qualitative/quantitative analysis and excellent report writing and communication skills. The collaborative nature of the role requires strong interpersonal skills to work well with others.

Your role will include:

  • Analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Preparing and delivering compelling client- and public-facing reports
  • Developing comprehensive strategies and recommendations
  • Preparing and delivering presentations and/or training to client teams and stakeholders
  • Active participation in knowledge and skills networks within Arup and the wider professional community.
  • Contributing to the corporate sustainability of Arup as a firm.

We are looking for people who have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree in a relevant field such as Sustainability, Climate Change, Carbon, Environmental Engineering or Geography. Other relevant qualifications will be considered.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: sustainability strategy and policy, sustainability assessments (CEEQUAL/BREEAM), carbon/GHG modelling and mitigation, climate change mitigation, carbon management, carbon accounting, management systems, ESG reporting.
  • Understanding of the principles of sustainability and climate change and its relationship to the planning, design and operation of the built environment
  • Experience of quantitative/qualitative data analysis and producing compelling insights and findings from analysis, i.e. the “so what?” from complex data sets.
  • Experience with writing and editing technical and non-technical reports
