Roles based in London will receive an additional London Weighting of £3,595. Roles based in Chelmsford/Stevenage will receive an additional South East allowance of £2,876. This role also attracts a Special Duty Bonus of £1,200 per year. This role attracts a SPOT Rate salary. SPOT Rate offers a progressive increase in pay to reflect the skills and experience of the officer. The starting SPOT Rate is SPOT rate 1 £34,672, SPOT rate 3 £38,314. Progression to a higher spot rate is only achievable once in post. Eligibility for spot rates is determined by the requirements of the role, not the skills or capabilities of the officer occupying the role. Roles where IPP or PIP2 accreditation is essential are eligible for spot rates.

Investigations is the core crime fighting capability of the NCA. We take an intelligence-led approach and concentrate on tackling the criminals and risks to the public which are beyond the capability or capacity of other law enforcement bodies.

The Investigations Directorate provides a flexible, shared operational capability, designed to maximise the impact of the UK's collective resources against serious and organised crime, and in specialist support of major crime. Our teams respond to a broad range of threats, many of which also remain a responsibility for police forces and other agencies as well as private industry.

Our teams lead investigations across the Serious and Organised Crime landscape for example; Organised Immigration Crime, Illicit Finance, Modern Day Slavery and Human Trafficking, Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation, internal Professional Standards, Economic Crime, Firearms, Drugs including County Lines, Anti-Kidnap and Extortion, Professional enablers and Money Laundering. The teams provide a national service of specialist investigative skills and expertise to support major crime investigations conducted by police forces, such as abduction, serial sexual crime and no body murder.

Job description

The role of the Surveillance Motorcyclist is to provide surveillance motorcycle support to National Crime Agency led operations so as to enable the effective and accurate collection of information, intelligence and evidence.

Person specification

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice on legislation, policy and tactical options to assist in the planning and implementation of operations specifically in relation to the deployment of Surveillance Motorcyclists.
  • Provide support to facilitate the implementation of the operation in line with appropriate authority and policy restriction. To maintain accreditation as a designated Motorcyclist and to comply with NCA policy.
  • Deploy as a motorcyclist operationally or in a training environment on a minimum of ten occasions in a rolling six month period.
  • Work co-operatively with team members and colleagues, contributing positively and constructively to the achievement of the team and NCA objectives.
  • Attend court and give evidence in accordance with legislation. Ensure all actions and activities comply with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Maintain qualifications in Staff Safety, First Aid and Personal Protective Equipment and utilise these skills in accordance with legislation and NCA policy.
  • Deploy throughout the country as required as the role is considered a national resource.
  • Investigate serious criminality; collecting and developing intelligence and evidence to build and contribute to case file preparations to prosecute offenders.

Qualifications

The following qualifications/skills are essential to the role and proof will be required at interview:

  • Q2 or Q200 College of Policing Surveillance motorcyclist accreditation or UK military or Intelligence agency certified equivalent.
  • Completed at least 12 Months accredited surveillance operative. Please confirm you have been deployed within the last 2 years but we are interested in officers with strong operational backgrounds and may consider experience obtained in the last 4 years.
  • Current/Active PIP1 or an equivalent recognised qualification/accreditation in Investigative crime issued by a Government body. Please see guidance within this pack on page 13 for further information on PIP & Surveillance accreditation and your eligibility to apply.
