We are looking for support workers to join

a potential new service within Mencap in Peterborough

We currently have an opportunity within Peterborough to support a young female to live independently within the community with support 24/7 and overnight with a sleep-in.

If you are new to working in care or looking to expand your knowledge and learn new skills this might just be the role for you! You will be joining a service that also covers the wider Peterborough area where you will be working alongside a fantastic team of friendly support workers who will help to ensure, you are welcomed and receive a full induction to be, supported within your new role.

You will receive an enhanced flat rate payment of £61.20 for any sleep-in shifts carried out. The payment for sleep ins is non-contractual.


About the Service


Mencap are looking to start supporting a new individual in Peterborough and to build a positive relationship with her and the family. Additionally, you will be required to support with going out into the local community and supporting her with independence skills whilst creating a positive relationship with the support network that would be around her.


Ideally candidates that can drive are required and you should have the necessary skills or be able to learn manual handling practices.


She loves to be listened to and have a voice in all aspects of her life. Whilst remaining safe and free from harm through general support and encouragement.


What does a Support Worker do?

As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure that the people we support live a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality. Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.

  • Relationship building – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.

  • Community & Social Inclusion - supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.

  • Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day. This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.
