The Growth Company’s (GC) Employment team - Justice Service, are looking a Support Worker to work within the CFO (co-financing organisation) Activity Hub and on an outreach basis.

GC Employment help to make a lasting difference to the lives of people throughout the North of England and beyond, by supporting individuals to gain meaningful employment.

You will join our highly skilled advisers and keyworkers who work with a range of individuals; from people who have found themselves recently out of work, to those with complex barriers such as physical disabilities, mental ill-health and debt.

The Activity Hub in Yorkshire builds its foundation from a community ethos which aims to support people on Probation (our participants) on a community order or licence to develop social capital through a range of interventions. This will also include close working with the National Probation Service and partnerships.

You will provide one-to-one and group work support for hub participants to deliver a range of information, guidance and training which contribute to the participants’ journey and progression into employment, training, education, and a life free from crime.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To engage with and case manage participants in the activity hub and to provide advocacy, mentoring, advice and guidance and training interventions that meet the needs of the individual.
  • Support the achievement of life skills and approaches to reduce reoffending.
  • Establish and deliver both group and one-to-one activities as part of participant interventions, including initial assessments, action plans, and progress/risk reviews.
  • Engage with community, voluntary sector and mainstream training, education and employment support services to ensure that participants are given the support they need.
  • Contribute to making contact and establishing relationships with new participants and assist them to understand the benefits of engaging with the activity hubs.
  • Deliver services, both at the hub and other community and voluntary sector venues.
  • Network, market and promote the service to partner organisations and participants.
  • Update Management information systems accurately as required.
  • Carry out associated administration work as needed.

About You:

  • Knowledge regarding the issues affecting the rehabilitation of individuals with criminal convictions, and desistance theory.
  • Knowledge of National Probation Services and/or HM Prison environments and/or training, education, and employment opportunities locally and nationally (desirable).
  • A warm, approachable empathetic style and the ability to establish a rapport.
  • A positive and can-do attitude.

Skills Required:

  • Experience working with individuals and supporting people to achieve their goals.
  • Information Advice and Guidance and/or teaching qualifications, (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Experience of working with individuals with criminal convictions, or those disaffected and marginalised from mainstream services, in training, guidance, advice and counselling environments is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a target-driven environment.
  • Training and facilitating.
  • Tutoring and/or Teaching qualifications would be desirable
