About Me

Hi, I’m a mum of one whose health deteriorated with an increasing level of disability due to multiple sclerosis after falling pregnant. Over time, my physical disability has shown some improvement however I still require an extra person to be here acting as my hands and feet to assist with basic tasks both for myself and our daughter. My partner works full time alongside looking after her; looking after me plus trying to juggle household tasks. We are looking to employ an additional person to cover some of the time that my partner is at work. primarily outside of school.

Days, Hours and Rate of Pay

£12 per hour. Number of hours suggested 6-10 per week but negotiable during interview process. More hours available during school holidays.

We are looking to employ an additional person to work alongside our existing Personal Assistants. Typical hours would be within Monday to Friday with possible weekend hours on rare occasions. Hours would usually be rota’d weeks in advance and ‘normal’ hours can be established. However, additional hours may be available to cover shifts due to either planned/ unplanned absence of one/ both of our other employees or during school holidays. At times of staff sickness, there may be times when little notice is given prior to being asked to work. Generally hours would be between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Flexibility is very important. We would consider a smaller number of contracted hours subject to discussion with the right candidate.

3 - To undertake household tasks when personal care tasks not required:

Dishes

Laundry – wash, hang out to dry and iron.

Cleaning including kitchen surfaces, toilet, floors

To prepare/cook food for our midday/ evening meal

To assist with completion of paperwork for example filling in forms

To undertake small shopping tasks EG picking up milk or bread, collecting prescriptions

To batch cook meals that can be frozen

Any other household tasks

The Person I would like

I am looking for someone to support me to remain as independent as possible and to have as much input into our daughter’s care as possible. It is very important that the successful applicant does not take over with either of our care with support being our primary focus. Where I am unable to undertake a task myself, even with assistance, I must feel comfortable with letting the successful applicant take full responsibility for the task.

We are looking for someone who has experience with children. Experience with care may be beneficial but is not essential. We would like you to interact with our daughter with a friendly and caring attitude whilst participating in normal children’s activities such as craft activities, trips to the park, reading with her etc. Flexibility is very important both in terms of working with us as a family and working alongside the other personal assistant who already works for us.

Informally put, we are looking for a ‘Mary Poppins’ type addition to our family to support our entire family unit.

We are looking for the successful applicant to commence employment as soon as possible. Normal employment would be based in Godmanchester however, occasionally; work will be based at Hinchingbrooke/ Addenbrookes Hospital if I am admitted in for treatment.

“Please note that this advert has been placed on behalf of one of our customers. Should your application be successful, and you are offered the position, you will be directly employed by the customer and not by PeoplePlus”
