An exciting opportunity to work within the Homelessness Service for Manchester City Council has arisen within our Floating Support Service (FSS). There are many reasons that a family or individual can become homeless. The Floating Support Service works together with the household to help them to remove barriers to enable them to move from temporary accommodation to more stable settled permanent accommodation.


Timely intervention to engage with people at the onset of homelessness affords the very best chance to link people into the support services they require. You will mediate on their behalf and move them on effectively into permanent accommodation in the social and private rented sector.

About the Candidate

Support Workers must have an awareness and understanding of homelessness and the impact this has on families and individuals. Homeless people can have multiple and complex needs and may be vulnerable. The role requires you to have personal resilience, a keen and committed desire to help and support people and a solution focused outlook. The role can be challenging and demanding as the work can include issues relating to loss of tenancy, debt, domestic violence, substance misuse, mental and physical health problems.


The role holder will have a good understanding of safeguarding, They will demonstrate excellent partnership working skills building and developing close working relationships with the voluntary sector, agencies, health partners and organisations.
