Support Worker

Support Worker Wrexham, Wales

MacIntyre Charity
Full Time Wrexham, Wales 10 - 10.2 GBP HOURLY Today
Job description

Why not start a rewarding new career in social care? No experience necessary: we'll train you.

You will provide invaluable support to four people with learning disabilities who live in their own flats in Wrexham. So what would you be doing day to day? Who better to tell you than Claire*, one of the individuals we support. We asked her what she wants from a support worker. Here's what she had to say.

Things that are important to me about our Support Workers :-

  • Talk to me/ treat me like an adult
  • Support me to do things, not do them for me…..even if it takes a long time
  • To listen to me and not ‘tell’ me. I do not like it if it sounds like you are being bossy with me.
  • Always ensure you include me, I am able to make decisions about my life and do not like it if I think you are talking about me.
  • I need someone who is kind and patient with me.

Support me to ;-

  • Visit my family
  • Go out and about in the car either to a cafe or to the shops or both!
  • Make the most of my garden and enjoy the outdoors when the weather is nice.
  • Stay safe inside and outside of my home as I can have seizures and I will need you to stay close in case I need medical assistance.
  • Do crafts and play on my wii, I love it when I get the chance to beat you on my golf game.

Things you need to know about me:-

  • I have a very naughty sense of humour.
  • My favourite thing is sticking the V sign up to people and even a bit of swearing but please don’t be offended by this.
  • Sometimes I need persuading to do things out of my comfort zone but if I keep saying no then I need you to respect my choices.
  • I am looking for someone who can be a friend to me and not just a support worker.
  • I have a lot of medical appointments and so I will need you to make sure I am treated fairly and equally in these environments.
  • I find it hard to trust people and I can feel a bit awkward if I don’t know you but, once I get to know you, I am really funny and we will have a laugh every day.

You must be a driver with a manual licence, as you will be driving service vehicles.

There are full and part-time roles available working shifts on a rota basis to include days, evenings, nights and weekends.
