About The Role

Location: Skellingthorpe, Lincoln
Days & Hours: Full time, Part time and Bank Hours available. These shifts are agreed to meet Paul's needs and are in accordance with the rota. Typical shifts are as follows:

During Term Time:
Monday - Friday, 7.15am-8.45am and Monday - Friday, 3.45pm-8.45pm
There will also be sleeping nights available, however the shift will start from 4pm-8am.

Non-Term Time:
Day shifts: 8am-10am, 10am-6pm and 6pm-9pm
There will be sleeping nights available however the shift will start from 6pm-8/10am.

Pay:
£10.67 per hour - £13.68 per hour dependent on shift pattern and experience. Sleeping nights will be paid at £NMW/£NLW (dependent on the Support Worker's age) per hour, Monday - Thursday and NMW/£NLW +£1 per hour for Friday - Sunday.

Driver required? Yes - desirable, to drive Paul's Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle, he has a caravan.

Paul is a lovely young man born in 2002. Paul's family, friends and support team are very important to him. He likes listening to and discovering new music. He has an interest in caravans and enjoys watching videos of them on YouTube. He has recently got an adapted touring caravan and he's become a real expert on them! He also enjoys gardening, shopping, swimming and going to the cinema.

Paul loves cats and dogs. He is very interested in making things, especially woodwork and using tools. He likes his outings to the seaside or country parks with his family. Paul is a very patient young man, who likes to help and will persevere with a task until completion. He has a very good memory, can tell a good story and always wakes up in a good mood, with a wicked sense of humour!

Paul has cerebral palsy as a result of a brain injury at birth, affecting his whole body and causing him to have communication difficulties. He requires full support with all aspects of daily living. Paul loves eating and drinking orally, topped up via gastrostomy. Paul has a power chair and enjoys the independence this gives him. He communicates using a computer, alongside limited speech and gestures.

Paul would like the new members of his team to be cat and dog lovers, cool, kind and interested in caravans.

Paul requires assistance and guidance with daily living and the primary purpose of these roles are to meet all aspects of care and support required. The Support Worker will be expected to implement support as advised by Paul’s team of therapists and record information relating to care and attention given. Pay and Benefits:

On-going training & support provided
5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata

About You

It would be great to receive your application if you have the following skills/behaviours:

  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experienced in working in a supporting role, preferably with young people, or keen to develop a career in this work.
  • Confident about working in Paul’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of his family.
  • Able to gain the trust of Paul and his family, and to build good working relationships.
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality and to respect Paul and the family's need for privacy.
  • Flexible and proactive attitude to work.
  • Open to being flexible with ensuring service continuity during school holidays and accompanying the family on days out.
  • Keen to see Paul develop with their path in life and assist with parts of this. Able to work under own initiative and to follow instructions/programmes from parents, colleagues and therapists.
  • A team player.
  • Good sense of humour.
  • Reliable, trustworthy and a good communicator.
  • Cheerful and caring with a positive attitude, as well as patient and tolerant.
  • Interested in people and committed to supporting others.
  • Happy to learn new things in accordance with the Paul's programme.
  • Basic understanding of the principles of rehabilitation.
  • Proactive and innovative with regards to planning and carrying out activities.
  • Willing to participate in a variety of outdoor activities
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ensure constituency of approach.
  • Full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) and able to drive Paul's adapted vehicle.
  • Water confident.
  • Basic I.T. skills and aptitude to work with communication aids. (Training will be given as required)
  • Willing to travel.
