Located in the heart of Cambridge, the Zoology Department is a buzzing and friendly community of researchers, students, and visitors who are passionate about exploring the wonders of the natural world. We are a large department of over 250 staff and graduate students, so things can get pretty busy!
We're recruiting a Junior Scientific Support Technician to join our fantastic scientific support team. Our team prides itself on delivering exceptional service to our research and teaching labs. This position would be your chance to kick-start your career in scientific support and contribute to Zoology's success. So, what are you waiting for? Join us now and make a difference!
This is an exciting role with varied responsibilities. You will support our aquaria and insect rooms, will help to run our glass washing facility, and provide assistance with the maintenance of scientific equipment, the preparation of media and the running of the tissue culture lab. You will occasionally help the teaching lab with the preparation of practical activities.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile individual who will preferably have experience working within a biological lab environment and/or with animals. You have excellent communication skills, work well as part of a time and have basic computing skills. Due to the nature of the work you should have a good level of physical fitness.
The department takes a proactive approach to personal and team development and we will provide training where necessary for this role. The successful applicant will have access to a broad range of staff benefits and personal development opportunities including discounts at a wide range of local and national businesses and educational opportunities available exclusively to University of Cambridge employees.
You will be required to work on site and the appointment is offered on a permanent, full-time basis.
