Co-ordinate, organise and prioritise the daily production workload taking into account clinical priority. To prepare and prioritise cancer chemotherapy, artificial nutrition and medicines for injection, using laminar airflow cabinets or isolator technology, providing all necessary in-process checks, within the clean room environment, isolated from direct supervision. To work unsupervised if necessary in the preparation of cancer chemotherapy. To prepare cancer chemotherapy for intrathecal use according to Department of Health guidelines, local Trust policy and departmental procedures.
To complete the initial check of cytotoxic and non-cytotoxic injectables and parenteral nutrition, completing the in-house competency assessment and the Southwest accredited pre and in process checking accuracy accreditation. To complete a final accuracy check against a prescription for cytotoxic injectables prepared and released as a special manufactured product by an external supplier. Ensure compliance with Aseptic Dispensing for NHS Patients to ensure the product is fit for its intended use. Assist in ensuring the department is fully compliant with the requirements of EL (97) 52 audits, to ensure all production operations are carried out in accordance to pre-established procedures and in accordance with good manufacturing practice.
Raise deviations for any change to a process or procedure and ensure they are escalated appropriately to the Production Services Manager/deputy and the Accountable Pharmacist/Deputy and any actions as requested completed. To supervise Assistant Technical Officers, Senior Assistant Technical Officers, Specialist Technical Officers and students within technical services. To train and carry out competency assessments of Assistant Technical Officers, Senior Assistant Technical Officers, Specialist Technical Officers and students in the production of all products under the guidance of the Senior Specialist Technicians. Prepare and update training portfolios for all production unit staff and complete performance reviews and appraisals.
To train and carry out assessments for students under the supervision of an assessor. Act as a mentor to ensure career and personal development of colleagues. Interview as part of the recruitment and selection process as required by the Production Services Manager/Deputy. To follow carefully all standard operating procedures to ensure all products are made safely and efficiently in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice Guidelines.
To prepare the first draft of master product documentation for new products and the first draft of new standard operating procedures. To prepare product documentation, with all types of calculations, and the production of labels using the Prisym 2000 label software. To participate in the preparation of clinical trials completing all necessary documentation as described in the study protocol. To assemble the raw materials and consumables required to prepare each individual product ensuring total segregation of each preparation using a box or tray segregation system as defined in the standard operating procedure.
To complete any environmental monitoring or operator validation tests requested by the quality assurance team. To complete, maintain and file all relevant documents, records and reports. To assist with stock control including the production and checking of routine stock checks and ensuring stock rotation and expiry date checks. To co-operate and participate in any training and development in technical services, attending such study days and courses as necessary for service development.
To clean the pharmacy aseptic suite and support rooms following standard operating procedures and using specific methods of cleaning, ensuring appropriate quality control samples are taken and cleaning logs filled out. To take part in an on-call emergency duty rota to assist the on-call pharmacist to include; - Information relating to queries about technical services work Preparation of emergency medicines, for example, cancer chemotherapy, eye drops etc. Preparation of scheduled treatments which are unable to be made in advance.
