An opportunity has arisen within the Youth Offending Service as a Family and Parenting Support Officer. We are looking for a confident and capable communicator to working directly with families as part of Youth Justice Interventions to improve outcomes for both parents/carers and young people.
You will have experience of working with families in a strengths-based way, incorporating a range of knowledge of intervention work to enable you to work systemically with families and other professionals.
This is an exciting time to join us as you will have the opportunity to develop the parenting and family support offer both within the Youth Offending Services and across the wider Vale of Glamorgan Parenting Services.
About the role
Pay Details: Grade 6, SCP 14-19, £25409 - £27,852
Hours of Work: 37
Working Pattern: 37 hours to be worked flexibly to include some evening and weekend working
Main Place of Work: 91 Salisbury Road, Barry, CF62 6PD
To work with staff, volunteers, and other agencies to provide a range of parenting programmes and support.
About you
Working with children and young people with challenging behaviour- Working with and providing support to parents and families on both an individual structured group work basis.
- Multi-agency influencing/networking.
- Knowledge and understanding of child development and parenting skills
- Knowledge of child protection issues and procedures.
- Understanding of the impact of trauma on children and their family
- Understanding of special needs, including ADHD, Asperger’s, etc.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to make appropriate assessments of parents.
- Ability to provide family mediation.
- Ability to translate assessments into effective, integrated support plans
