£11/hour + £40/sleep in, 2 days on 4 days off on a rolling 6-day rota (start time 8 am, finish 8:30 am on your final morning)
Job Description
To provide support for up to 5 looked after young people aged 16-17 in a 24-7 staffed semi-independent home in West Sussex. The role includes supporting them to gain life skills for independence when they leave our service at 18, giving emotional support through building positive relationships, encouraging education, training, or employment, and helping them to reach their full potential.
Being a support worker in our service will be a rewarding role where you will have an impact on young people's lives and make a real difference.
Duties:
- Providing daily support to the young people to enable them to become independent successful adults.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with young people, building on their self-esteem, and empowering them to take control of their lives.
-Overseeing the young peoples support/ pathway plans and completing actions set out by professionals and the young person. This includes attending meetings and raising any concerns regarding their welfare.
- Engaging young people in productive key working sessions such as independent skills, finding jobs, keeping themselves safe, mental health, housing, education etc. This will include following our programme to Independence.
- Providing emotional support to young people in a non-judgmental, kind way.
- Completing admin work including weekly, and monthly reports, risk assessments, incident forms and responding to emails/ phone calls from the network.
- Work as part of a network around the young people, liaising with professionals, and family members where appropriate and building effective working relationships.
- Work as a network to safeguard the young people
- Manage any challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques
- Work with the young people and the network to ensure that they have a successful move on plan when leaving the service
-Undertaking any other duties appropriate to the post as may be requested by the manager

Unity Support Services is a trauma-informed service for young people (aged 16-17) in West Sussex who are looked after by the local authority. Our aim is to support our young people to become independent, build resilience and lead fulfilling lives during their time with us and in the future. At Unity, we have the approach ‘what happened to you?' instead of ‘what is wrong with you’ when working with our vulnerable young people. We are passionate about meeting their needs, building effective relationships, and empowering them to achieve good outcomes.
Our house is situated in Bognor Regis and it houses 5 young people. We are currently looking for 1 full-time staff member to join the team.

About you
- An empathic, kind, reliable, passionate, and organised individual with a great work ethic, a sense of humour and happy to go the extra mile to help a young person.
- Able to build effective and trusting relationships with young people.
- Good knowledge of safeguarding and competent to lone work
- An effective communicator (written and verbal) and listener
- NVQ 3: Children and young people or similar/ or 1-year experience working in a similar environment/ supporting/ caring environment.
