Come and join mirus in Brecon. mirus use Positive Behaviour Support, Active Support and are accredited by the National Autistic Society, which recognises the high standard of support given to Autistic people.
We are currently supporting 3 people, living in their own homes to live the life they want.
Gentleman No1
This young man lives in Brecon in his own home. He is looking for people to support him at home and in the community. He likes playing Music, using his iPad, Trampolining, his sensory room, Disney films, swimming and walking.
He loves going to the Diversity Day Centre where he has the opportunity to meet his friends and socialise, He is well known locally.
He is young, energetic and outgoing, He has the ability to complete household tasks, which he sees as a personal achievement. Staff working with him use the Active Support model to ensure he is as independent as possible and has the opportunity to develop his skills and learn new ones.
He is an individual who loves to achieve in life, He has lots of outcomes he is working towards with help from his family, assisted technology and paid support.
Gentleman No2
This young man lives in Brecon, in his own home. He is looking for people to support him at home and in the community. He likes listening to music and using lots of humour around this, watching his favourite TV programmes and films.
He loves being around people and watching the world go by. He attends the Diversity Day Centre POD, going to the coffee shop and pubs for food. He has a keen interest in nature and enjoys visiting castles and waterfalls, this helps relax and meets his sensory needs.
Using the Active Support model, staff support him to complete house hold tasks. You will need to be patient with this.
He has outcomes he is working towards, outcome based on his best life. With the help from his family and paid support he will work towards achieving these and more.
Gentleman No3
This young man lives in Brecon, in his own home. He is looking for people to support him at home who can encourage him to do more daily living tasks. He needs a Support Worker who is relaxed, calm and patient.
He is looking for someone who can encourage him to complete activities without placing direct demands on him.
He has a keen interest in Marvel & Super heroes. He has lots of DVDs and marvel comic books, which he enjoys watching and reading with staff.
So who are we looking for?
- Someone who is calm and will take the time to help the others express themselves.
- Someone who is softly spoken but can still make others laugh.
- Someone who is fun to be with and will help others try out new things.
- Patience will be a key characteristic for this role.
You may understand the issues associated with people with complex needs, but we will provide in depth training and coaching. Being a Support Worker takes bravery, patience, and commitment. If you share our values and are willing to make a difference, we'd love to hear from you!
mirus is a not-for-profit charitable organisation, working in partnership with the people they support, their families and other partners, to deliver high quality, person-centred support services for people with a disability. We have been supporting people in Wales for over 35 years and currently support over 350 people in ten different local authority areas.
What will you be doing?
- You will provide support with a range of tasks which may include household and domestic tasks, shopping, diet/food preparation, personal care, personal hygiene, dressing and personal appearance, as well as support with medication.
- You will be required to support people through challenging times, where they may present with increased anxiety, this may lead to displaying behaviours that challenge, which you will receive training for.
- As a Support Worker you will help develop, implement, and review a range of individual support plans to enable the person that you will support to lead a fulfilling life.
- As a Support worker we will support you in working towards your QCF Level 2 Health and Social Care, which is completely funded by mirus.
- You will work closely with people's circle of support which could include; family, Behaviour specialists, care managers, community nurses and occupational therapists to deliver high quality support.
