Job description

IT Support Specialist
Eventbase is looking for a friendly, macOS savvy IT Support Specialist to join our busy team. You will use your problem solving skills to troubleshoot issues as they arise, and plan ahead to improve our IT processes and procedures.

This role is part of our DevOps team, and you will have the opportunity to learn about our internal systems and infrastructure. This is a full-time position based in Vancouver, BC that will work at least 3 days per week (Monday - Wednesday) from our Yaletown office.

About Eventbase
Eventbase has set the gold standard for live event technology for more than a decade. We power mobile event apps for global brands including Salesforce, Cisco, SAP, Deloitte and Adobe. We also build official mobile apps for massive events including South By Southwest (SXSW) and National Retail Federation Big Show, as well as three Olympic Games. Eventbase has been recognized with more awards than any other event app platform, including being named winner of “Best Event App” at the Event Technology Awards five times.
We are driven by our mission: to bring people together for the magic of live events, and we’re proud that our industry-leading products have been at the heart of exceptional live events around the world since 2009. Millions of attendees across thousands of events have held Eventbase’s product in their hand as they walked the conference floor, participated in sessions and interacted with others onsite. Our team has a track record of pioneering breakthrough live event technology, and there are more exciting innovations to come. The event industry is being reinvented in the wake of Covid-19, and Eventbase is uniquely positioned to play a key role in this new world of events. We’re moving forward with our vision to shape the future of live event experiences.

Are you ready to join the industry leader in live event technology?

What You'll Do

  • Assist colleagues with common software / configuration issues on their work machines, and escalating to the rest of your team (or other teams) as needed
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware issues with employee computers
  • Be approachable for help, and provide timely assistance and instruction as needed
  • Monitor the performance of our office network, diagnose and resolve issues as they arise
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of our IT assets and accessories (employee computers, test devices, displays, SIM cards, peripherals etc)
  • Equipment recycling and data removal for devices that reach end of life
  • Manage access requests for internal tools, office productivity suites, phones, and more
  • Own the repair process for broken down or damaged equipment. This includes guiding employees through shipping their equipment back to us, backing up data, coordinating repairs through third parties, and making sure we have spares to keep employees online
  • Onboarding: own our onboarding processes including setting up computers, ensuring accessories are ready, packaging and shipping new employee kits
  • Offboarding: ensure access changes are made quickly and accurately, reclaim + refresh equipment and backup data as needed
  • This role requires you to work out of our Yaletown office Monday - Wednesday

Who You Are

  • You are cool under pressure. Sometimes things break when we need them the most, and you will work the issue methodically until it’s resolved
  • You are excited to learn new things! Eventbase has a mosaic of IT resources, and you’re keen to learn about how to use, maintain, repair and deploy them over time
  • You are a people person. As the face of IT, it's important that you like working with and helping people. You know that a lot of time IT issues might lie with the user rather than the machine, and you can help people without making them feel silly
  • You value security and discretion. Eventbase works with many of the world’s largest organizations and we place a high value on security and trust. As a member of the DevOps team, you will help define and uphold the company's approach to privacy
  • You read error messages and enjoy trying to find solutions

Required Skills

  • Strong Mac hardware and macOS knowledge: nearly all of our employees use Apple machines. You should be comfortable troubleshooting common macOS software and Mac hardware issues. You don’t necessarily need to have repair experience
  • Intermediate network skills: you should understand the basics of an office network (what are routers, switches, access points, VPN etc). It’s OK if you don’t know the ins and outs – the team will help you learn over time.
  • Bonus: Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM), Software Defined Networking (SDN / Meraki / Ubiquity / etc). If you’re familiar with the terminal, have used SSH and or Docker, that's great, too.
Why Join the Eventbase Team?
At Eventbase we value trust, respect and authenticity, and believe we are all better together. Joining the Eventbase team means you will enjoy a progressive work environment with some exceptional perks, including the option to go onsite at some of the largest events on the planet. We enjoy “No Meeting Fridays” and Eventbasers get every second Friday off, so you can have an extra 26 long weekends every year in addition to statutory holidays. We have a $1,250 annual professional development allocation and $1,000 per year to set up your home office. We also offer comprehensive benefits including extended health care from your first day, a $1000 flexible health/wellness spending account, paid parental leave for all new parents, and paid mental health days. And of course we offer competitive market salaries and employee stock options too.
We’re proud of our diverse team: Eventbasers hail from all over the world, with many different backgrounds, cultures and interests. We actively promote women working in technology both internally and by partnering with women in tech organizations externally. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, colour, national or ethnic origin, gender or gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, age, marital or family status, veteran status, or disability status.
