Role of the Support Manager
Key Steps Home Group provides semi-independent accommodation for young people leaving care who are 16 years upwards, who do not possess the ability to live independently and require support. The focus of the service delivery is to help and support young people to develop their independent living skills and being able to manage their own tenancy independently in the community. whilst in transition of becoming adults.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual with the experience and knowledge of managing a semi-independent/support accommodation for young people leaving care. You will have the ability to connect with young people and staff, be a creative thinker and have the ability to problem solve and manage crisis.
The role will require you visit our Head Office at least once a week with the rest of the time on site at accommodation properties.
· Reporting to the Operations Manager of Key Steps Home Group.
· Raise the profile of Key Steps Home Group Semi-Independent Accommodation and market our services to the Local authorities to increase demands for our services and present to the directors where you feel there is an opportunity within Health and Social care that we should consider looking into.
· Build good communication and networking links with the Commissioners of the referring authorities.
· Work in partnership with the Director to complete tenders and secure contracts.
· Oversee referrals and matching processes of young people referred to the service by the local authorities.
· Ensure safer recruiting of staff.
· Ensure the accommodations across the Northwest are occupied at no less than 90% by service users to a level that maintains the financial stability of the service.
· Support and guide staff on matters relating to housing regulations.
· Support and guide the Senior Youth Support Workers, Youth Support Workers and Placement Officer to ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day functioning of the accommodations. Ensure rotas are maintained and staffing is always at full capacity.
· To ensure safeguarding, risk assessing practices and the managing of crisis and conflicts amongst staff and are consistent and competently carried out by staff.
· Ensure all notifiable incidences are reported to the relevant local authority of the young person involved.
· Ensure all policies and procedures pertaining to the safeguarding of the young people are followed at all times and adequate measures are taken to practice in a way that minimises risks such as missing from home, CSE/Exploitation etc.
· Ensure Policies and Procedures in the accommodations are kept up to date.
· Source or deliver training where required to support the development of staff.
· Manage staff rota to ensure the accommodations are fully staffed to the requirement of the young person’s needs and care plan.
· Support staff to provide adequate support to the service users/young people.
· Support staff to manage any issues or queries that may arise.
· Support staff to appropriately maintain and appropriately store case files.
· Ensure staff understand and practice data protection/GDPR .
· Coordinate and maintain regular meetings with staff, holding monthly supervisions and bi-monthly team meetings.
· Ensure there is a good working relationship with the support staff and the service users.
· Appropriately manage matters of staff who are under performing or lacking in the abilities for the role that they are responsible for, this will include working closely with HR holding Performance management meetings with an action plan to follow and then disciplinary actions if no improvements are made.
· Oversee the recruitment process for all job roles within the organisation and that all the required paperwork (DBS, References, ID, Qualifications, Trainings etc) is in place and no corners have been cut.
· Handle any complaints, queries or requests for information that come through to Local authorities (incl. LADO) until the matter has been closed. All compliments and complaint that the organisation receives, must be recorded in our Occupancy & Referrals Stats (excel).
· Lead and be present for QA inspections/Monitoring visits by Local authorities and to ensure that we score very well and follow up on any action points given. This will also include completing any paperwork that we get sent prior or after the QA visit.
· Ensure to do weekly spot checks on the accommodations to ensure the accommodations are in working order and any issues are picked up.
· Ensure all maintenance of the buildings are resolved within a timely manner.
· Ensure fire alarm testing occurs on a weekly basis.
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent (some flexible hours may be required to cover shortfalls in shifts, flexibility required for weekends.
Salary: between £28k- £33 per annum dependant on experience
