What will the role involve?

Are you looking for an opportunity to develop your career in research support? Are you interested in making research as openly accessible as possible? Do you have experience of developing others that will help you get the best out of your team?

We want you to join us to drive the Library’s research services, making sure our policies, tools, training and support meet researchers’ changing needs throughout the research lifecycle. You and your team will support the University’s Innovation Strategy and REF2028 preparations by always looking for ways to advance open access and research data management, and to contribute to a positive research environment.

We’re looking for someone who puts collaboration and engagement at the heart of what they do. You’ll build productive relationships with people across the University and externally. As a line manager and a member of management team, you will be able to bring people with you, and to create an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and empowered to perform at their best.

A bit about the Library, Careers & Enterprise…

This role is based in the Library, Careers & Enterprise – a place to learn and share ideas, a virtual hub for research and discovery, a team of friendly faces delivering excellent customer service, and an innovative community of experts working together to enable teaching, learning, research and enterprise at Salford.

At Salford, we are working hard to create an inclusive culture where all our students and colleagues can bring their whole selves to the University. As part of a determined approach to build a more diverse workforce and address the current under-representation of colleagues from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds within our team, we welcome and encourage applications from the widest talent pool.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive salary - and excellent pension scheme
  • Generous annual leave - plus the option to buy additional days
  • Flexible working - We are open to agile ways of working that provide you with flexibility while allowing us to deliver an excellent service.
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Wellbeing support for your mental and physical health
  • Our community - Help make a real difference to the people and communities we support
  • The perks! - a wide range of lifestyle benefits and discounts

About your application

Your application will be assessed based on your responses to five questions linked to the essential criteria in the Person Specification along with your CV. These questions are shown in the application form.

We will shortlist on the basis of these two documents, and will not be able to consider applications where the questions have not been answered.

We want your application to be the best it can be, so make sure you answer each question fully and provide clear examples of how you meet the criteria (see Job Description, p.5).

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to our Peel Park Campus for a formal interview, expected to take place week commencing 14 August 2023. You will also give a short presentation (topic to be provided a week in advance), followed by a team discussion which you will be asked to facilitate.

If you have any questions about the role, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Emma Smith, Head of Learning & Research Support: [email protected].

We want to make our recruitment process as inclusive as possible, so if you require any additional accommodations or would like to offer feedback please contact [email protected] at any stage.
