£43,000 to £45,000 per annum plus £5,688 per annum car allowance, bonus and benefits.
Working closely with the Operations Delivery Director and associated Teams the role is to ensure a standardised and consistent approach in both operational and process activity . A high degree of ensuring compliance is maintained across locations and functions within the area.
About the role
- Provide operational recommendations and updates to strategic plans and reviews.
- Aiding the DC/Metro Operation teams with commercial conversations to support a consistent approach.
- Working closely with the DC/Metro and Linehaul teams to ensure standardisation and operational consistency.
- Processing and extracting data (including Financial) for analysis and reporting across the team providing advice and recommendations to standardised methods of working.
- Monitor and variable costs to ensure budgets and profit targets are met.
- Support all Managers across the DC/Metro and Linehaul sites with leading major projects or improvements.
- Monitor the quality of Execution activity through technical and practical evaluation
- Provide periodic updates on KPI and Cost performance to influence efficiency.
- Publish necessary reports to assist Teams in proactive decision making.
- Support the operations to ensure Standard Operating Practices are adhered to in turn providing industry- leading service and efficient processes.
- Co-ordinate how Smiths News policies are communicated, understood and implemented.
- Monitor Compliance with all legislations specifically in areas of Health & Safety, Transport and People.
- Assist in the Identification, selection, recruitment, coaching and development of current and future leaders within the operation
- Feedback and report on the balanced scorecard and identify to area’s for improvement and opportunity.
- Work effectively with the growth team to facilitate new opportunities and operational planning.
- Work effectively across business functions to meet business plan objectives.

About you
- Experience of budget management, high commerciality and financially astute.
- Proven experience of managing change and initiating improvements, maintaining objectives/KPIs.
- Previous experience of recruitment and selection.
- Proven ability to spot and solve problems in a proactive way
- Displays enthusiasm and drive for achieving high standards.
- Ability to remain calm in a pressurised time sensitive situation
- Multi-site operational management experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, V LookUps).
- Large Goods Vehicle knowledge ( an advantage)
- Expertise of using Office systems / software (eg MS Office).
- Articulate and good degree of numeracy.
- Good Report writing skills.
