At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.


Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.


We are looking for an Enhanced Support Manager to join our team based at Oakhill Secure Training Centre. The successful candidate will be required to provide professional advice, guidance and support to operational staff and children to manage and reduce the risk of self-harming or violent behaviour. They will also support the delivery of the violence reduction strategy within the establishment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and guidance on suicide and self-harm, violence reduction and anti-bullying ensuring compliance with relevant contractual standards and to minimise their occurrence.
  • Support the implementation of the Safer Custody processes and deliver recommendations about risk and non-compliance to ensure such issues are managed effectively within the establishment.
  • Maintain records and risk assessments on all young people considered to be at risk so that accurate information is readily available.
  • Communicate standards and procedures required of SASH, YPSP, Do-it Profile and violence reduction to share best practice and meet centre standards.
  • Coach and support staff to maximise their performance in relation to SASH processes and violence reduction and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures and contractual requirements are met.
  • Provide data for analysis in order to identify trends so that appropriate action can be taken.
  • Provide data for regular audits to ensure contractual compliance and that all departments are meeting SASH, violence reduction and anti-bullying management standards.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive Health & Safety culture to support the recognition as a British Safety Council business unit.
  • Ensure the maintenance of security within the establishment environment by compliance with security instructions.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills

  • Experience within a custodial setting
  • Custody Officer certified

Desirable Skills

  • Detailed knowledge of communication tools and techniques
  • Experience working with complex/vulnerable young people
