Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for the 24 x 7 operation of Data Centers and other Critical Facilities. Duties including data center operations, leading project implementations, technical troubleshooting, testing, and support of various IT hardware and infrastructure components. Responsible for all aspects of data center project management including planning, design, material ordering, installation, testing and implementation. Plan and implement changes to bring project hardware online. Evaluate and recommend IT hardware and infrastructure components. Provide consultation and direct technical support for data center problems, incidents and changes. Implement IT hardware “adds, moves and changes” into the data center environment. Assist IT Engineering and Support teams to complete changes to their IT hardware and systems. Provide onsite data center escort and oversight to IT employees and support vendors. Ensure data center high availability and uptime to meet enterprise objectives through monitoring, timely service restoration, and tuning.

The successful candidate must possess a good work ethic, excellent organizational and communication skills, project management experience, and experience working with data center standards and best practices.   • Data Center Projects. Lead data center project planning and design meetings
  • Provide project status, tracking and reporting
  • Lead and coordinate the installation of IT hardware and supporting infrastructure in local and remote Data Centers and other critical facilities
  • Infrastructure work includes: data cabinets, power, cooling, hardware racking, network and SAN cabling, and associated peripherals
  • Configure, install, test, and troubleshoot hardware systems with UA Engineering Teams
  • Provide field services engineering IT support
  • Install initial configurations as needed
  • Coordinate and implement changes to platforms and systems with internal and external IT partners to bring hardware and application online
  • Assure minimal impact to the business by following enterprise standards and procedures
  • Data Center Operations
  • Assure continuous uptime of critical infrastructure supporting IT platforms, hardware and applications
  • Provide onsite and on-call 24x7x365 support
  • Work with United Engineering, Operations or vendors to troubleshoot and repair IT system failures
  • Perform root cause analysis to quickly recover from service interruptions, and to prevent recurring problems
  • Monitor systems and report as needed
  • Data Center support and logistics
  • Coordinate activities with internal/external technology owners/service providers
  • Provide 24x7x365 data center access, escort and support to Network, Storage and Platform teams as needed
  • Consult with other business units (e.g. application groups, DBAs, middleware, etc.) to configure platforms for product installation
  • Monitor, manage, and tune platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved
  • Coordinate and perform purchasing, receiving, shipping, asset tagging and reporting Data Center Technologies and Standards
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend industry trends and emerging technologies for enterprise data center use to maintain standard processes while driving down total cost of ownership
  • Develop and maintain United Data Center Standards to provide detailed roadmap of standard processes used within United's data centers
  • Provide technical support to the enterprise as needed

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent IT experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of Data Center or other critical IT hardware or infrastructure experience
  • Solid understanding of Data Center Infrastructure project planning, design and implementations
  • Knowledge of connectivity topologies and data cable installations
  • Knowledge of data center telecommunications technology Infrastructure (rack, power, copper and fiber optic connectivity, cable management)
  • Project Management and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Good level of poise in high pressure environments
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • 10 years data center engineering and 5 years of leading a technical team
