About the Apprenticeship
As an Engineer Apprentice, you’ll have the opportunity to develop practical skills with one of the region’s largest employers whilst continuing with your education.

We’re offering a 5 year apprenticeship programme within our state of the art automated warehousing and distribution facilities at Boots. Here you will experience how our team of engineers focus on the highest level of site services and maintenance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

As an apprentice engineer you will gain the skills required to maintain an automated operation to world class standards of equipment performance and reliability. This will be delivered through planned preventative maintenance, continuous improvement, reactive fault finding and root cause analysis.

The role requires both an electrical and mechanical skill base to be developed, this allows all engineers to work across the full range of equipment on site, experiencing all levels of engineering maintenance.

What you’ll be doing on your placement
We’re partnering with Toyota Manufacturing to deliver your initial training. The first two years of your apprenticeship will be a training phase spent full-time at the bespoke Toyota Apprentice Development Centre at their manufacturing site in Burnaston, Derby. Here, supported by world leading trainers, you will develop skills in mechatronics, welding, machining, hand tool use, and much more!

You will also take part in personal development courses such as, teamwork, communication and planning skills through a series of outward bounds activities. The training phase will also incorporate targeted placements on site at Boots, on our Beeston site, to build on your new skills and knowledge.

The remaining time on your programme you will be in the development phase mainly based at Boots working alongside our experienced team putting into pactice the skills and knowledge already developed as you continue your journey to become a fully qualified engineer. This phase will also incorporate day release to allow the completion of a HNC level 4 qualification.

What you’ll need to have achieved or on track to achieve

  • GCSEs at grades C/ Grade 4 or above, including Maths, English and Science
  • Functional Skills at level 2 in Maths and English

Our ideal candidate
  • Will be aged 16+ when you join us in September 2023
  • Is able to work using your own initiative but is also able to work as part of a team and be an active team player
  • Feels confident working in fast paced environments
  • Is able to use your strong communicate skills effectively with individuals at all levels
  • Has curiosity about how things work and how to fix them
  • Demonstrates logical and analytical thinking and be able to demonstrate good dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Is able to organise themselves accordingly to enable to meet deadlines.

Salary: Competitive

Location
First two years of apprenticeship will be spent full-time at Toyota Manufacturing in Burnaston Derby. Then the remainder of your apprenticeship will be held at our world-class facilities at the Support Office in Nottingham
