Role overview:
The primary functions of the Supplier Quality Engineer(s) are to execute the deployment of the organizations advanced supplier management Quality Plan. The SQE is responsible for APQP deliverable monitoring, verification and tracking of launching programs via external suppliers through regular communication including on-site visits.
The SQE is responsible for monitoring the assigned current production external supply base and supporting plant with critical issues/chronic suppliers. In addition, the SQE is responsible for driving improvement through a roadmap for selected external suppliers that have “red” Lear scorecards.
Main Responsibilities:
- Work with suppliers to create and maintain APQP documentation.
- Attend Lear program launch & management gateway review meetings, communicate timing and quality needs to the supplier and manage adherence to deliverables.
- Complete supplier quality planning review and audits representing Lear and our customers.
- Ensure process achieves customer craftsmanship expectations, functional needs and safety requirements
- Root cause supplier quality concerns on major emerging issues
- Monitor quality Issues through to resolution for both emerging issues, continuous improvement, and launch.
- Complete quality planning audits and process walks with the suppliers, identify concerns, make improvements with supplier management, and track ongoing compliance to improvement achievements.
- Identify and prioritize risk for Operations from suppliers, and work to develop system checks, inspections at both Lear Plants, and the supply base to protect customers from potential failures.
- Review supplier and quality planning buy offs, and work with engineering for supplier requested concerns.
- Monitor run at rates for capacity/quality risks / craftsmanship / customer dis-satisfiers.
- Work with plant to develop launch containment planning (i.e. GP12), PFMEA risk reduction.
- Has the authority and the responsibility to stop any process or product delivery in case of a non-conformance of customer expectations, safety or environmental risks.
- Assist in monitoring and reporting monthly summaries of external supplier performance data.
- Assist Lear plants with Supplier Quality Issues identified in the escalation process.
- Drive Lear Scorecard “red” suppliers to “green” status through roadmap improvement actions and follow up.
- Daily review of SQTS Quality Notices.
- Perform reviews / on-site audits with suppliers identified by Purchasing. The use of the Global Auditing Manufacturing System (GAMS)
- Provide feedback in conjunction with the review and approval process of adding a new supplier into Lear’s system.
- Perform assigned new supplier/location pre-sourcing audits
- Set supplier performance targets, monitor monthly trends, identify candidates for development.
- Support Supplier top focus process including action follow up and improvement data verification.
- Support tool relocation and supplier compression activities

- Expert in problem solving and analytical skills using 8D methodology:
- Competent in quality tools, and process/production control methods such as:
- Ability to read and interpret drawings to ensure the understanding of the agreed quality parameters and product specific requirements.
- Understands and maintains Quality Systems, internal and external.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.
- Knowledge of customer specific requirements.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
