Reports to: Summer School Director (Head Office)
Location: MPW London or MPW Cambridge
Salary: £900 per week, PAYE
*Preparation will be required prior to the course start date on a flexible and remote basis. Hourly rate of £19.23 per hour.
About MPW & Summer Programmes
Founded in 1973, MPW is one of the UK’s leading names in fifth and sixth-form education, offering a distinctive alternative to traditional schools. Our three colleges in London, Birmingham, and Cambridge, offer the same broad range of A levels, GCSEs, retake, and university foundation courses.
MPW launched summer programmesin Cambridge in summer 2022. We are extremely excited to also be launching a London summer programme in 2023. Students aged 14-17, from all over the world, study with us and reside at our accommodation: Queen’s Gate House in South Kensington and Tripos Court in Cambridge.
Students study an innovative, high-quality academic programme, with a choice of eight academic streams, including a life kills programme developed by EtonX, as well as MPW’s own academic team. They also enjoy a packed schedule of social and cultural activities to make the most of their time outside of the classroom, plus lectures and career talks given by world experts and leading university academics in their respective fields.
The Role
We are looking for a candidate for each location, London and Cambridge. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate staff and students, providing them with a positive and safe experience during their time with us. The centre manager, supported by the summer school director, will be responsible for overseeing and running the summer programme at your assigned college.
Main Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage all day-to-day aspects of the summer programme
- Centre manager will be the Designated safeguarding lead (DSL)
- Maintain high levels of communication with activities, accommodation, and teaching staff.
- Host Daily student briefings
- Coordinate arrival and chaperoning of guest speakers
- Oversee the coordination of all after school, evening, and weekend activities
- Available at the weekends to provide out of hours emergency support as required.
- Line management (with support of the summer school director) of the activities and houseparent teams
- Confirm excursions, create trip packs and risk assessments
- Manage student behaviour and safeguarding and check on students’ wellbeing and academic progress daily.
- Ensure any requests or queries from staff are dealt with swiftly
- Ensure the activities and accommodation staff rotas are sufficient.
- Keep records, manage cash, credit card purchases, receipts, and supplier invoices.
- Manage communication with staff regarding daily processes, student behaviour and academic progress
- Build a positive rapport with the full time, non-summer college staff at the school
- Coordination of daily trip packs
- Ensure a positive staff and student experience
- Monitor student attendance daily and keep records
- Manage free time and family visit requests
- Participate in training
- Comply with the policies and procedures, and report all concerns to an appropriate person, in respect of, safeguarding, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and Data Protection
About You
- Incredibly organised and able to meet deadlines with efficiency
- A proven leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working in an educational setting with teenagers & teachers
- Experience with UK based summer programmes or similar short courses
- Detailed knowledge of London and/or Cambridge
- Experience managing and leading staff
- Understanding of health and safety and safeguarding procedures
- Good people skills, cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Enthusiastic, friendly and energetic
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and use one’s own initiative.
- Be flexible with time, adaptable and versatile
- Educated to degree level or above
- Fluency in English- written and spoken
Our Offer
- Salary: £900 per week, 4-week fixed term contract
- Working hours: 8:30am- 5:30 pm Monday to Friday
- Be available to provide out of hours emergency support for the duration of the courses (evenings and weekends)
- Centre Manager must be present and available at the accommodation on arrival days (Sunday July 9th & Sunday July 23rd)
- This role can be residential or non-residential. Residential is preferred. If residential, accommodation and meals will be provided.
